I just updated my Mac operating system and my Quicken no longer works.

No. You will have to upgrade to the Subscription version of Quicken for Mac.
This will convert your Quicken Essentials file upon startup.

And if you do not want to buy a subscription but are somewhat technically inclined, you can try to run QEM in a VM (virtual machine) running your old macOS.
