Quicken Classic for Windows
File Conversion and Backup (Windows)
Data File Issue
sfkaplan
I just installed my old Quicken 2007 Windows on a new desktop and moved the data file using restore backup (backed file up to USB drive and then put it on the desktop). Quicken works BUT i have to open a file from the PC every time I start Quicken - it doesn't find the data file. On the old PC it opened straight away to the data. Any ideas how to fix?

Did you install the last patch release for your version? You can download it from this link:
Quicken Patches
Save it with the installation CD that you have for use in the future if need be.
Also, look at your data file's name. Is it longer than eight characters in length, 12345678.QDF.
If it is, with Quicken closed, rename it in Windows Explorer; once renamed, double-click on the renamed data file to start Quicken using that data file and thus changing Quicken's last file used info; close Quicken and then start Quicken again using the original Quicken program icon which should start with the renamed file as normal.

Aside from fixing your issue, you may want to consider using the free upgraded version of QW2013 available here:

(just lok under the appropriate section).

Splasher - thank you very much. Shortening the file name fixed the problem.
