Chase Password Length Issue

I recently changed my Chase password, updating it to a generated strong password. Chase accepted the longer, more complex password; Quicken does not. Attempting to update the password vault generates a Chase password length error, and Quicken fails to allow the new longer password.

    Hello @jmplunkett

Thank you for reaching out to the Quicken Community, I understand how frustrating this can be.

Please note, Quicken has a 16-character limit for bank passwords. If your bank password is longer than 16 characters, it will need to be shortened.

I hope this clears things up!

This doesn’t make any sense. Chase changed over to Express Web Connect +.  Express Web Connect + doesn’t use the customer’s username/password, it is one of the reasons it is supposed to be more secure.

If you still see prompt for a password or it is in the Password Vault, that indicates that your account(s) haven’t been changed over to Express Web Connect + and as such will always fail because Chase no longer supports Direct Connect/Express Web Connect which do use the username/password.

The way Express Web Connect’s security works is that you “re-authorize” which takes you to the Chase website.  You log in there, and authorize Intuit (which is Quicken Inc’s aggregator) to access your accounts using a rotating security token (not your username/password).

And one more thing.  I don’t know about Express Web Connect, but Direct Connect’s password length limit is 32-characters which required by the OFX/QFX standard.

To : Moderator, Quicken Jasmine, your answer is incorrect. My Morgan Stanley Wealth Management accts are direct connect and my password is 32 digits, and Quicken downloads work I would say 80% of the time on these MSWM accounts. I do have a little more inconsistency with the Quicken downloads on these accts than my other accts however... do you think reducing the PW length to 16 would increase the consistency of the DL's?

No, it wouldn't.  Note that with Direct Connect Quicken is talking directly to Morgan Stanley's OFX server, so if it is inconsistent, it is either on their side or because of a bad Internet connection (not likely).  And I will note that financial institutions tend to do work on their servers late at night and on the weekends that can cause these kinds of problems.
