Will a larger quicken file eventually give you issues?
Can the larger your quicken file gets give you issues down the line? I had used quicken for years and within the last 2 or 3 I had been using it I kept having issues with the program just shutting down and sometimes not even opening with my file. I had worked endlessly with support and sometimes things would start working again for a little while just for the same issues to start up again later. So I gave up on quicken and went to try and fine something else to use. I did for a little bit but overall still didn't feel it was as clean and smooth as quicken was. So with the recent sale they ran I figured ok I'll give it a try again. However, decided to just start fresh from now going forward so just started a whole new file. Which does kinda suck but wanted to see how it would go. Do I risk the new file starting to have issues again as the file starts to get larger as well?
Thanks.

Quicken Windows or Quicken Mac? The databases are very different, and the potential for size problems as well as possible steps to avoid problems are different as well.

I would say there isn't a direct relationship between the size of the data file and what problems might come up. And with the exception of maybe a lot of securities/security lots/transactions in a given investment account I wouldn't say performance is related to the size of the data file either.
Some of possible ways a data file can get corrupted is "luck of the draw", but there is also the "if you use this feature, the risk goes up." kind of things. Sync to Mobile/Web is one such feature. Not everyone experiences such problems, but it does come up a lot on the forum and you won't find any Quicken Windows SuperUser using it except for maybe testing it in a separate data file. My data file goes back to 1996 and is 167MB (no attachments which can make a data file seem really big, but don't cause any real problems), and in total I think I have had one or two accounts that I had to sort abandon that I can't really fix but are no longer used. Other than that my data file is pretty clean.

My data file is 150MB and I've had Quicken Windows for over 20 years. Like many others I do not store receipt images. I quit using mobile app and Quicken web due to both corrupting my desktop file. I've tried both several times over the years and it always corrupted it. Having an SSD drive makes my data file load faster than a hard drive. Once in a while I may have to validate or supervalidate my file but it is a quick process and my data file is clean, operable, and accurate. I download from 13 financial institutions every day and haven't had problems this past year. FYI.

Thanks for all the feedback. So does that mean I probably should not sync to cloud? That looks to be the only other thing I use. And what everyone has been saying makes sense with my last file because with that one I believe I had tried using the mobile app and possibly the web, I can't remember for sure. So that would make sense why that one got messed up then. Like I said with the new file I just started it just looks like its showing syncing to the cloud so if that may cause me issues as well I will stop doing that immediately :-)

Hi @eeyore6802
As others have said above, I strongly suggest that you not sync to mobile/web, or as you put it, "to the cloud". While some users have not reported any issues with that, unless you really need to use those features our suggestion would be to avoid them, especially if the benefits of using them are very important to you.

Some users are able to sync to the cloud without experiencing data file corruption, but I don't enable Cloud sync and I would not recommend it.
Also there have been recent issues involving a conflict between Quicken and Microsoft OneDrive. For new versions of Windows, Microsoft strongly encourages users to enable OneDrive, and by default it syncs everything in your Documents folder, including the Quicken directory, which is the default location for Quicken data files.
To avoid this issue with the current version of Quicken if OneDrive is active, you must either pause OneDrive before starting Quicken or put you data file in a location outside of the Documents path. See this Alert for more information

Thanks so much everyone. I have turned off the sync on quicken as my main goal of restarting this file is to make sure I don't have any issues and can accumulate a running file as I had before. The last thing I want to deal with again is a corrupt file!
