    Do you get the error message "Can't verify the financial institution" with this?

    Also is this for a 401K/403b account?

    The error can be because there isn't a proper entry in the fidir.txt file:

    https://ofx-prod-filist.intuit.com/qw2800/data/fidir.txt

    Or some syntax error in the QFX file. If it is a syntax error Quicken will report it in the Connection Log:

    Hello @jabush59,

    Since you are receiving this error when attempting to import a QFX file downloaded from the financial institution's website, you will need to contact the financial institution directly for assistance. As stated at the bottom of this support article regarding error OL-221:

    "Web Connect (Importing a QFX file from your bank's website) - Receiving this error when downloading a QFX file directly from your bank's website indicates an issue with the file itself. You will need to contact your bank to resolve this issue."

    This may also require you to speak with an online services specialist who handles transaction download issues at the financial institution. If your financial institution states they can't assist, it may be necessary to escalate with the financial institution.

    We apologize for any inconvenience! Thank you.

    I've been having this issue for the last month or so. I have a JHK retirement account (https://myplan1.johnhancock.com/) that I have to manually download quarterly QFX files and import. I normally go to the "Review → Statements" page and select QFX download and then import the file into Quicken. Below is the Quicken dialog I am getting for the failed import.

    I looked at the Quicken connection log and it has this text in it:

    20240222 11:20:01: Not all required fields present. Object: OFXFILERS missing tag: OFX
    20240222 11:20:02:
    20240222 11:23:05: Not all required fields present. Object: OFXFILERS missing tag: OFX
    20240222 11:23:06:

    That is after trying to import the file twice. I also downloaded the Microsoft Money (OFX) version of the file and the downloaded QFX and OFX files are identical. I inspected them both and they are an XML file but not an OFX/QFX. There is just a bunch of <FUND> sections with the various fund options. Here is a condensed snippet:

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>
    <ns2:translation_config xmlns:ns2="http://www.broadridge.com/brcc/xsd" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">
        <Funds>
            <Fund>
                <FundNameCode>RCAT2020</FundNameCode>
                <FundNameShortCode>CZD</FundNameShortCode>
                <FundNameText>JH Multi-Index 2020 Preserv</FundNameText>
            </Fund>
            <Fund>
                <FundNameCode>PBA</FundNameCode>
                <FundNameShortCode>PBA</FundNameShortCode>
                <FundNameText>PBA</FundNameText>
            </Fund>
            <Fund>
                <FundNameCode>PBA</FundNameCode>
                <FundNameShortCode>NPB</FundNameShortCode>
                <FundNameText>PBA</FundNameText>
            </Fund>
        </Funds>
    </ns2:translation_config>

    There are many more of those <FUND>…</FUND> sections in the files.

    Hopefully this can help troubleshoot.

    Hopefully this can help troubleshoot.

     I inspected them both and they are an XML file but not an OFX/QFX.

    You have already done the troubleshooting and come to the right conclusion. John Handcock is providing "garbage" files, not QFX or OFX.

    This "QFX file" isn't a QFX file, and it isn't even an OFX file. And Web Connect/QFX file and the Microsoft/OFX file should be similar, but not exact.

    The error message in the connection log is spot on, you can't have an OFX file without the OFX tag/section, the format is like:

    First there will be some "header/version" information, but pretty quickly in you should see this:

    <OFX>

    And the file should end with this:

    </OFX>

    The difference between a pure OFX file (like would be called a Microsoft OFX) and a Web Connect QFX file would be this section in the OFX data:

            <FI>
    <ORG>ISC
    <FID>10898
    </FI>
    <INTU.BID>10898

    This is why the OFX and QFX files shouldn't be identical.

    This seems to be resolved for me as of today.
