M1 Finance support on Mac

It seems M1 Finance (m1.com) is supported on Windows, but not on Mac.

This is a huge bummer as it's my preferred investment brokerage.

Here's what I see for M1 in the fidir.txt file, the Financial institution Directory which Quicken uses for supported institutions:

    06359 06359 06359 M1 Bank https://www.m1bank.net 573-429-0454 https://web15.secureinternetbank.com/pbi_pbi1151/Login/081519549 ACTIVE BANKING&WEB-CONNECT BANKING,CREDIT,ACCOUNTINFO&EXP-WEB-CONNECT NOT_QBP NA

    68053 68053 68053 M1 Bank -Business Banking https://www.m1bank.net NA https://web15.secureinternetbank.com/EBC_EBC1151/Login/081519549 ACTIVE BANKING,CREDIT,ACCOUNTINFO&EXP-WEB-CONNECT NOT_QBP NA

    66572 66572 66572 M1 Finance https://www.m1finance.com/ N/A https://dashboard.m1finance.com/login ACTIVE ACCOUNTINFO,INVESTMENT&EXP-WEB-CONNECT NOT_QBP NA

This shows the M1 Finance should be supported. I'm not sure why the first two show up when you type "M1 Bank" in the Quicken Mac Add Account screen, but the latter does not show up when you type "M1 Finance" (or "M1 F" or "M1F" or any variation like that). Unless someone else has an answer, this might be worth a call to Quicken Support.

    Hello @mattc2,

In order for a financial institution to support downloads to either of Quicken Classic's platforms (Windows and/or Mac), the request to be added would need to be made and submitted by the financial institution to our service providers. If you want Quicken Classic for Mac to be supported, you will need to contact your financial institution directly and tell them you'd like to download your accounts into Quicken Classic for Mac.

I hope this information serves to be useful to you! Thank you.

@Quicken Anja Can you explain why M1 Finance appears in the fidir.txt file, which I posted above, but Quicken Mac doesn't offer it as a FI choice with it when you type "M1 F" or "m1f" in the Add Account dialog box? Thanks.

@jacobs I will reach out to to my team internally to ask about this, and follow up once I have an update.

    @jacobs hello again,

M1 Finance was initially added to the FIDIR list when the initial plan was that they would support both Windows and Mac. It was later on discovered that they would only support Windows and not Mac, which is why it was never added to the Mac program's bank list.

    Thank you!

@Quicken Anja Thanks for obtaining that information. Of course, I have more questions… 🤣

    (1) The entry I cited is from the Quicken Mac fidir.txt file, as recently as today:

    66572 66572 66572 M1 Finance https://www.m1finance.com/ N/A https://dashboard.m1finance.com/login ACTIVE ACCOUNTINFO,INVESTMENT&EXP-WEB-CONNECT NOT_QBP NA

So it does appear in the Quicken Mac fidr.txt list. Is there something in that entry which tells us that it is not supported for Quicken Mac? And why is this entry in the fidir.txt file for Quicken Mac if it is not supported?

    (2) Speaking more broadly, can you explain what makes things different for a FI to support Quicken Mac versus Quicken Windows for EWC/Quicken Connect? In both cases, I'm thinking that an aggregation server is communicating with the FI's server, and the OFX data transmitted is plain text and not platform-specific. The difference between Quicken Mac and Windows should only be in the connection between the user's computer and Quicken's server. So why would some FIs not allow Quicken Mac to download data?

    Thanks!

@mattc2 Meanwhile, you have an answer to your original question: M1 Finance apparently does not support downloading to Quicken Mac. Why? We don't know. You need to contact them and lobby for them to support Quicken Mac downloads. There's nothing Quicken can do if the financial institution doesn't allow it.

Submitted a ticket at their platform. Also interested to hear @jacobs question answered, for curiosity's sake :P
