Account Transfer from Fidelity to Vanguard

In 2005 I purchased a Vanguard ETF thru my Fidelity account. April /18/ 2024 I moved the ETF from Fidelity to my Vanguard Roth account. The transaction shows as a “Removed” from the Fidelity account and “Added” in the Vanguard account. None of the reinvested dividends or capital gains transferred therefore the cost basis does not show in the Vanguard account. How do I move the missing transactions from Fidelity to Vanguard or edit the move to show past history?

    Hello @FEC,

I suggest reviewing this FAQ regarding the bulk moving of transactions. It is recommended to save a backup before proceeding.

    I hope this helps!

"The transaction shows as a “Removed” from the Fidelity account and “Added” in the Vanguard account. "

Based on that description it seems like you relied on the two Financial Institutions (FI) to handle the transfer via downloads from each FI. Sometimes that works "properly" but frequently if doesn't.

To fix this you need to go back to that Fidelity Account in Quicken and on 4/18/24 and delete that Removed and then do a "Shares Transferred Between Accounts" action in that Account, moving that security from Fidelity to the Vanguard Roth IRA. That should result in one Added transaction for each and every lot of the security, properly priced and with the correct holding period, in the Roth IRA Account. If everything looks copacetic then you delete the downloaded Added that came from the FI.

    Backup first, of course.

The transactions in the Vanguard ETF will remain in the Fidelity Account in which the transactions occurred.
