Using memorized payee on downloaded transaction replaces the amount
I have an investment account with checking. Downloaded transactions for checks don't have the payee name, so I want to enter the names manually. If the name matches a memorized payee and I accept the match, the amount of the check gets replaced by the amount associated with the memorize payee (even if I set the memorized payee amount to zero/blank).
I would like to be able to use the memorized payee since it will also set the category (and also protects against typos). Is there some way to apply the memorized payee without applying the amount?
Using Quicken for Windows.

Hello @jdigital,
To start with, I suggest that you please try validating and/or super validating your data file. However, I do recommend that you first save a backup file prior to performing these steps.
Validate:
- File
- Validate and Repair File...
- Validate File
- Click OK
- Close the Data Log
- Close Quicken (leave it closed for at least 5 secs)
- Reopen Quicken and see if the issue persists.
If the issue persists, proceed to Super Validate. If the issue is resolved after performing validation, then please disregard the instructions to Super Validate.
Super Validate:- File
- Hold CTRL + Shift and click Validate and Repair File...
- Super Validate File
- Click OK
- Close the Data Log
- Close Quicken (leave it closed for at least 5 secs)
- Reopen Quicken and see if the issue persists.
I hope this helps!

Is there something in my question that suggests this could be a data corruption issue?

Paper checks you write should be recorded in Quicken when you write the check (and BEFORE you download transactions which might contain the cleared check). That gives you a register transaction with correct check number, payee name and category. No matter what information is downloaded from the bank, you already have a correct register transaction which the downloaded data cannot mess up.

It didn't occur to me to record the check in Quicken at the time it was written. I can give that a try.
But I also have the same issue with other ways that the money is withdrawn from the account, such as bill pay, Venmo, etc. I don't like the way my financial institution labels transactions, so I want to edit them, and the results are the same as mentioned in my original post.

The amount is changed to the amount that was memorized.
Have you tried changing the payee of an existing transaction, by using a memorized payee? When you do that, does Quicken use the memorized amount, or does it preserve the original amount? (Just want to make sure that my we're talking about the same thing here.) Thanks…
