Renaming Rules Not Working
Greetings! About two weeks ago I created several dozen renaming rules, none of which seem to work. I am reaching out to this group for guidance. (I am using Quick Premier Desktop for Windows 11 Enterprise, version R56.9, Build 27.1.56.9.)
Below are the rules created with the intent that "Amazon" would be updated as the Payee if any of the criteria below were met.
A transaction with the payee "AMZN Mktp US*I09WH0VM3 Amzn.co" appeared in my downloads this morning. When attempting to save it to my register, the downloaded name stayed rather than changing to Amazon as per the abovementioned fifth (or fourth) rule. Why would the Payee not have been changed to "Amazon"?
Also, what is the difference between the Quicken Name and payee? How should each be used in the creation of renaming rules?
Thank you
John

Actually, from what you've shown, you only need 2 rules:"
If Payee contains Amazon, OR
If Payee contains AMZN
Change to AmazonAnd I'm unsure as to the difference between the two. I don't know, guessing here, but it's possible that your multiplicity of rules confused Q.
Lastly, have you seen this? Does it help any?

NotACPA, thank you for the quick and helpful response. It does make sense. I will modify my naming rules to exclude the "Quicken name" and rely solely on using the "Payee". I'll check out the article as well.
It's interesting because the default in a renaming rule is "Quicken Name".

In my opinion that is mostly because they have a far better opinion of their "server list" than I do. I really wish "payee contains" was the default.
BUT there might be some confusion here.
In the renaming rules you have "Quicken Name" and "Payee Contains".
Here is the info on these:
So, they believe that their "database" is better than you picking your own keywords. Also, it has been noted that it seems that "Contains Payee" searches both the Downloaded payee and memo, whereas "Quicken Name" only looks at the Downloaded Payee name.
And to where I think there might be some (extra) confusion.
@Quicken Kristina pos of "
utomatically apply Quicken's suggested name to payee
is not selected" does not refer to the "Quicken Name" setting in the renaming rules. It refers to this one in the preferences:This only applies if none of your renaming rules match. It is that same database lookup, but at a different time (and only if the renaming rules fail to match).
And also, make sure you actually have "Use my existing renaming rules" selected.
