Anja, you put in the Alert that "this error can be dismissed by either clicking on "Cancel Backup" or the "X" in the top right corner of the message box". That is not accurate. Neither of those actions allows the program to close or open a different file.

Thank you for this info, I will pass this along internally to the proper channels.

Same issue here - currently Copy or Backup File and View/Restore Backup is currently grayed out and cannot Cancel the backup in order to switch to other files no close Quicken. Copied my file over to new directories to ensure they were not tied up with my One Drive backups. Have to use Task Manager to cancel the app, but afraid I am going to corrupt my open file! Using Windows 10 Home - Version 10.0.19045 Build 19045- Quicken Version R57.26 Build 27.1.57.26

@Quicken Anja What is the Quicken recommendation to exit the application? Using Task Manager??

Found that turning off OneDrive sync resulted in favorable results and I could exit Quicken!

I'm having the same issue since updating last week. Backing up to local drive. Please fix the update.

Same issue; seems to have started after most recent update. Version R57.26. Gonna roll back to prior version.
Interesting release note. Looks like the tried to fix a backup problem, but caused another in the process:Release R57.26 (US Versions, July 2024)
What’s Fixed
- Issue preventing some users from making local backups of their data files.

This page has links to prior versions. I tried Version R57.25, but the problem still exists. Version R57.16 seems to work.
I highly recommend bookmarking this link. It's really helpful to be able to roll back aftert Quicken sends out annoying or disastrous updates.
I'm a Quicken user since the DOS daze.0 -
Is there a timeline for resolving this issue? I can't close or save changes to my Quicken file and I'm worried that i may lose all of the entries that I've made.

I have the same problem - can back up and close the program with one of my files but not the other - BUT I also cannot get task manager to close quicken. I have to reboot the whole computer.

I'm experiencing this issue too: windows will not close without showing "online backup" dialogue, then it crashes and I need to kill it via task manager. Started early July 2024.

I successfully tested a fixed version of Quicken today. They ought to have a patch ready shortly.

I tested it successfully yesterday

It's now over a week and there's still no solution readily available.

Still can't exit without Task Manager. And now the backup option on the File menu are blacked out right from the beginning so no way to do a manual backup.

I tested a “fixed” version of Quicken and it seems to be working well. I assume Intuit will distribute this version to all users in the next several days.

Now can't backup at all.

This issue was "reported" in July. 30 days later, others including myself are having this problem. The solutions offered are all duct tape and chewing gum. Seriously, Quicken … fix this.
As to having the files in a One-Drive folder. They need to be there so that our files are backed up inside our own IT infrastructure, not backed up to Intuit's structure where a significant hack is only days, weeks or months away from having all of our data exposed …
As to turning off automatic backup …. finding that does not work long-term. The gremlin returns.

@Quicken Anja Is this fix deployed? If not, when? The alert has not been updated in 2 weeks.
