No transaction history on security detail view -Still
Been sick, didn’t get to answer NotACPA before this question was closed by Q team or ?
Friday, September 27, 2024
Is there/this a programing error that the transaction history is not transferred from the stock in the portfolio to the transaction history because all the stocks I have there is no transaction history.
I don’t want to “test file and adding the security account(s) to see if it produces the same issue with no transaction history. It is recommended to save a backup before proceeding with troubleshooting steps in the event that you would like to return to your original starting position. Below are instructions on how to create a test file”, it should be there downloaded from the broker.
NotACPA answers. Do TOOLS, Account List and click EDIT adjacent to the account(s). Does "Tracking Method" show as SIMPLE or COMPLETE?
Yes web express connect +

Hi, thanks for responding.
"Express Web Connect (+)" means that the Quicken server is responsible for logging on to the broker's website and "Screen scraping" (reviewing, parsing) the individual webpages for new transactions. If that program doesn't correctly interpret what it "sees" you'll get results similar to yours. Please call Quicken Support on the phone during posted hours of operation and request help. Let them do a screen share session with you to review the situation on your computer, to determine the nature of the problem and to figure out how to fix it. This may have to be escalated to higher service levels as needed.
Until there's a solution, you will have to fix those transactions yourself, based on the transactions on the broker's website or their monthly paper statement.

Are you looking at this Security Detail View or some other view?
Can you show us the view you're getting? And can you show us an Investment Transactions Report showing transaction detail for the same security, please?
How do I post a screenshot in the community from windows
Hope you're feeling better now. I look forward to your response.

That's comment editor speak for "you need to add some text to a comment. An image alone is not enough"
As to the image you provided … looks normal to me, except for the fact that the transaction detail is shows that you added transactions with a value of $0.00 instead of recording proper transactions like Buy, Sell or in this case Dividend Reinvestments. If you want / need to show correct Cost Basis together with correct Gains / Losses for your investments, you need to use the proper transaction types.

That's the thing, this download is from the broker, I don't touch anything. Looking at that I was puzzled why is the price and amount is not calculated in from this download.
I then have to input the Cost Basis with Gains / Losses for the transaction each line for the date? Will that fill in the price and amount?

Not knowing who the broker is, I can only assume that the downloaded transactions are incorrect.
For a Reinvested Dividend, the broker should give you one transaction, Type = Reinvest, with number of shares purchased and total transaction amount. Some brokers download two transactions instead: one for the Cash Dividend received, and the 2nd one, better be Type = Buy, for the shares purchased from the cash amount. You need to complain to Quicken Support if your brokerage account is connected using "Express Web Connect" (with or without an additional + sign).
If the account is connected using "Direct Connect", complain to the broker's Support Center. The transactions have been added to your register already. If you want to see correct Cost Basis information you need to edit all the transactions and add the transaction amount to each of the "Added" transactions, based on the broker's monthly transaction statements.

This is what happens when an investment account was previously set up with Simple Tracking but then the account is later changed to Complete Tracking.
In Simple Tracking no security transactions are downloaded….just the share balances. In Security Detail you will see:
- "Share balance" for each date in the Action column.
- No transaction pricing in the Price column because they are not transactions. (The actual daily prices should still be visible by clicking on the More button above the Transaction History in Security Detail and then clicking on Edit Price History.)
- Nothing will be in the Amount column because it is not a transaction.
- Quicken will calculate the value of the security holdings for use in the Dashboard using the Price History and the number of shares held in Quicken.
Changing the tracking method from Simple to Complete will do the following:
- Action column: "Share Balance" will be changed to "Added" (or "Removed" if shares had been sold). Since Simple does not download any securities transactions and only downloads "Share Balance" for Complete tracking Quicken will change the number of shares held by converting the share balances downloaded to Add/Remove shares transactions.
- Shares column: Instead of Share Balance it will show the actual changes to the number of shares held.
- Price will still not be present because Add/Remove shares transactions do not have any prices associated with them….unless we manually add them. The actual daily Prices should be present in the Edit Price History.
- Amount will still not be present because there is no Price shown.
I'm guessing, but this looks like you might be downloading Simple tracking data into a Complete tracking investment account. I didn't think that would be possible that Quicken would allow for this to happen.
Or, are you downloading from a Simple tracking financial institution and then manually changing the tracking method from Simple to Complete? If the broker supports only Simple tracking, this could not be done without first deactivating the account. Then the next time you want to download you would need to go through the Add Account or Set Up Now process, again. But would that then change the account back to Simple?
BTW, the EWC+ connection method is capable of downloading Complete tracking investment data but I believe most brokers use it to download only Simple tracking data. I think Schwab is one that permits downloading with EWC+ in both Complete and Simple tracking modes but since I do not have any Schwab accounts I am not sure how to select one vs the other. And if one selects Simple tracking downloads with a broker that supports both Simple and Complete can Simple data be imported into a Complete tracking account?
Lots of questions. No definitive answers as of yet.
So, I will ask the question, as well: Who is the broker?

Who is the broker? - Schwab
My inputs are -
One is a cash account where funds are stored for future buying, in the Account Details, it does not have any connection link to Schwab just the General and Display tabs with a Description of a linked checking account.
In the Account list there it sits with Under the Investments part Transaction Yes (Express Web Connect+)
In the Account Details of the account General tab is the name of the account , show cash in a check account, tracking radio box is checked Complete -Positions and transactions. This is where i take it the checking account get its numbers.
Chris had this approach -
Googling Schwab downloading with EWC+ takes you back to Q procedures , but I'm going to email Schwab today about EWC+

Ukr - If the account is connected using "Direct Connect", complain to the broker's Support Center.
Checked it is connected and checked as Express Web Connect +
