Can you add two incomes to Budgeting?

When I create a budget through the Budget tab, Quicken ONLY adds my income and refuses to add my spouse's. I've ensured they're both coded the same in their respective account registers, but there's seemingly no way for the app to see dual incomes. Surely not all Quicken users are single?

    Hello @Blackstrider,

To assist with this issue, please provide more information. What category is assigned to your spouse's income? Have you clicked on Edit Budget (near the upper left) and made sure that category is included in the budget and that it shows as an income category? Have you checked to make sure the account those transactions show up in is also included in the budget?

I look forward to your reply!

    Hi, @Quicken Kristina,

The deposits for both of us are listed as "personal income" - I've tried setting them to paycheck and other similar items. I have ensured that ALL categories are selected, and that the Paycheck item is selected in Income. The transactions do not appear in the budget.

There is a wrinkle here though that my main file is in Canadian dollars with some US dollar accounts, and my spouse's income is in US dollars. Mine is reported in Canadian dollars.

    Thanks for the quick reply!

Since it sounds like you have one Quicken Account for your income and another Quicken Account for your spouse's income, one explanation for what you're seeing is that the your spouse's Account hasn't been selected to "feed" info to the budget. Any chance that's the problem?

@Blackstrider It's the different currencies that are the problem. When you create your budget you select which currency it's for - you can see this selection at the top of the window when you edit your budget - and the budget will only include transactions in that currency. Transactions in different currencies will not be converted to the selected currency, they will be ignored; your budget in Canadian dollars will not pick up your wife's US$ paychecks or any other transactions in her US$ account. I created a test file with accounts in both US and Canadian dollars and entered income & expense transactions in both currencies, and when I create a budget only one set of transactions is picked up depending on which currency I select for the budget.

There's a Product Idea thread to improve multi-currency support in Quicken Mac that's been marked as "Planned", so they will be making changes in this area at some point but we don't know when. I would suggest adding a comment to that thread describing the issues you're having trying to budget with multiple currencies.
