Quicken Desktop to Quicken Web Migration
Hello,
Will Quicken Web import all of my web-backed data from Quicken Desktop Synch? And, will Quicken Web download all my cleared banking transactions like Quicken Desktop does?
What is the basic web-based Quicken version called?
Thanks!

Hello @crwiseman,
Quicken Classic is not web based. It is based on the file stored on your computer. You can set up sync with the companion apps, Quicken on the Web and the Quicken Mobile app, to be able to view/update your data when you're away from your computer. See this article for more information:
Most accounts should be able to sync with Quicken on the Web. If you notice some accounts missing, you would want to check in your Quicken program to make sure you have those accounts selected to sync. You would also want to verify you are syncing to the correct file (if you have more than one Quicken data file). See this article for more information.
When you log into Quicken on the Web, it does sync with the Quicken Cloud, which will pull in information from your Quicken file, and it also does sync with your connected financial institutions to pull in any new transactions. This information should pull into your Quicken file next time you open that file and sync with the Quicken Cloud.
Quicken Simplifi is Quicken's fully web-based product. It is separate from Quicken Classic. Currently, there is no tool to import data from Quicken Classic into Quicken Simplifi or from Quicken Simplifi into Quicken Classic.
I hope this helps!

Kristina,
So what you're telling me is that there is no fully web-based Quicken product that will both download current bank transactions AND import all past transaction history from Quicken Desktop? If so, that's a problem as my laptop crashed yesterday and I was kicking myself that I hadn't yet migrated my Quicken Desktop to a fully online personal banking software solution.
Thanks,
Carl

Thank you for your reply,
Unfortunately, that is correct. Quicken on the Web would not be able to pull in any history from the desktop application that hadn't already been synced with the Quicken Cloud. It would be able to download current bank transactions, if the accounts were already synced with the Quicken cloud and visible in Quicken on the Web.
Did you keep any backups of your file on removable media (flash drive or removable hard drive for example)? Did you have your backups synced with a cloud service like OneDrive, iCloud, or Dropbox? If so, you may be able to recover a recent backup of your desktop file from one of those places. Note: Often devices that use Windows 10 or Windows 11 sync your Desktop, Documents, Pictures, and Videos folders with OneDrive by default, unless you turn that feature off or run out of storage space.
You can download your transaction information from Quicken on the Web without having the desktop file to pull the information into. In the Transaction Activity section, there is a down arrow you can click on to download your transactions as a .csv file.
Please note that no investment transactions would be included in this download because Quicken on the Web does not support investment transactions.
Thank you!

Kristina,
I sync my Quicken Desktop transactions with the Quicken Cloud, but I don't have step-by-step instructions on transitioning from Quicken Desktop to Quicken Cloud. Also, I would need to compare the summary Quicken Desktop home page of account balances if I could switch from Desktop to Cloud before I felt comfortable moving forward. Can you offer any help on this?
Thanks,
Carl

Thank you for your reply,
This article provides instructions on setting up sync and syncing to the cloud:
Please keep in mind that Quicken on the Web is not a stand-alone application. It is a companion app for the Quicken desktop program. If you are looking for a stand alone web based application, you may want to consider Quicken Simplifi.
Thank you!

Kristina,
Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately. Quicken Simplifi needs to have historical data sent from my bank, which ain't gonna happen. When is Quicken going to have a robust, standalone web-baed version that can import its own backed-up transaction files?
Thanks,
Carl

My guess: probably never. Simplifi is marketed as a spending/budgeting app for folks getting started with their personal finances (i.e. they don't have years of Quicken Classic data they need to import). They're really two different products.
Creating a feature-complete web version of the Windows/Mac Classic programs is a huge development task, money I'm guessing Quicken would rather spend on 1) finishing Mac Classic which still doesn't have all the features of Windows Classic and 2) further enhancing Simplifi.1 -
@crwiseman No one will be allowed to answer your question. Discussions of competing products aren't allowed on this Q sponsored forum.
I'd suggest that you do a Google search, or perhaps review back issues of PC Magazine or other computer pubs.

OK, understood. But, PC Mag ratings seem to be "pay-to-place" rankings.

So find yourself another source.

Thank you for your reply,
While Quicken Simplifi does not currently support importing your information from Quicken Classic, there is an Idea post on the Quicken Simplifi Community asking for this functionality to be added:
If your financial institutions make your transaction history available for download in .CSV format, you may also be able to import the history into Quicken Simplifi that way. See this article for more detail:
If you need further assistance with Quicken Simplifi, I recommend posting to their Community, since the users and Coaches there will be able to provide better information. Here is the link to their Community:
I hope this helps!
