Wrong Bond Prices on Downloads

I've seen multiple comments on wrong prices being downloaded to bonds in Quicken. (I'm on a PC using Quicken Classic Personal and Business). I own numerous bonds, and periodically, I get the wrong price, often the same wrong price for all 12 bonds! Sometimes, the price downloads are correct, but then, somewhat at random times to my eye, the incorrect prices occur again. All the CUSIPs are entered correctly, and there's no corruption in the data file. This very maddening problem has been going on and off for two months with two different broker platforms (Schwab and Rockefeller). Others here have complained about this problem, but the "answers" don't resolve the issue; the thread is then closed, and there's no consolidated trail. Can the Quicken team please respond to this and provide a recommended solution? Thank you.

    Hello @jonansell1950,

To assist with this issue, please provide more information. Do you recall what version of Quicken were you using when this issue started (you can view version information by going to Help>About Quicken)? Does this affect only bonds, or do you see this happen with other holdings also? Does this happen on business days, non-business days, or both? Is there any pattern to the incorrect price it shows (for instance, an outdated price, always the same wrong price, etc.)?

I look forward to your reply!

I posted about this same issue months ago. Never received a response. Happens on both treasuries and CDs in my Charles Schwab downloads, all of which have a proper CUSIP in their security details. Only happens for some, but not all, CDs and treasuries in my accounts. When it happens, all the treasuries and CDs that have the issue receive the exact same incorrect price quote in the download/update. There's no rhyme or reason to the errors. I attached screen captures that show how some treasuries and CDs have a correct price quote after a recent download/update and others do not. I also include the details showing price quotes on one CD and one treasury that have the issue. The CUSIP for the CD with this issue is 06051V452. The treasury CUSIP is 912828XB1. I have to go in and delete the errant price quote from each security when this happens. In the securities that I selected to show, you can see the errant price for 11/1/24. There are accurate prices from other dates there. There were other days that errant prices prior to 11/1, but I deleted those already. The only guess I have is on dates where there was no activity on these securities (as they are not always bought/sold every trading day), this may be somehow leading to an incorrect quote (but makes no sense why they'd all get the same price). It's always in the range show now $236ish (and this errant price has been increasing since I this issue started for me).

    Hello @TomVan1964,

To clarify, you mentioned that this is happening with Schwab accounts, but your screenshots seem to indicate this is also happening with Bank of America and Morgan Stanley. Is that correct, or is this happening only with treasuries/CDs with Schwab? Are these CDs and treasuries associated with accounts you have connected in your Quicken, or did you manually enter them?

If they are associated with accounts that are connected in your Quicken, have those accounts been reset or deactivated/reconnected since the issue began?

I look forward to your response!

This is only with treasuries and CDs within my Schwab accounts. CDs can be actively traded just like bonds, so the value of them updates regularly. My accounts are set up for automatic update in Quicken and the assets shown were automatically created during a download/update. The accounts have not been reset or deactivated/reconnected since the issue began; I'm not sure why that would be pertinent to fixing the issue. The issues does not happen with all CDs and treasuries, plus some days valid quotes for these assets download and some days bogus quotes download. It doesn't appear to me to be an issue with the account set up or security set up.

This may not apply, but I was having similar issues with incorrect quotes, seemingly random, but it also affected other securities. I disabled RT quotes in preferences and have not had the issue since.

I am having the exact same problem with 10 municipal bonds; the rest are fine. The other thing is that price of the problem bonds is exactly the same. Today the 10 were all $162.72. I've uncheck Match with online security and relinked them to the Schwab account. This hasn't worked. It's throwing off all my financial reports. And it's a pain to delete the price history for 10 munis.

    Hello @SeanMac,

To assist with this, please provide more information. Are all of these problematic bonds with Schwab? If any are with a different financial institution, which financial institution are they with? Have you tested to see if turning off Real-time quotes makes a difference? To do that, go to Edit>Preferences>Investments and make sure the checkbox by Real-time quotes is unselected.

I look forward to your response!

Yes - all the bonds are with Schwab. And I've un-checked that preference. As you can see, the problems bonds are all the same price at 162.72

    @SeanMac

Un-checking the Real Time Quotes option and/or un-checking the Download Quotes box for the bonds in the Security List does not correct previously downloaded prices, it only fixes prices going forward. Hover over the little clock icon to the left of the price to see the last date the prices were updated.

With the option un-checked, do a One-Step Update so that prices and transactions are downloaded from Schwab. If the bonds are correctly linked to the corresponding bonds at Schwab so that you see the correct CUSIP numbers, you should see Schwab's prices. You may not get a fresh price update until there is at least one transaction to download from Schwab.

This worked for me also. Thanks.

    Quicken Kristina,

I was wrong in saying that unchecking real time quotes fixed my issue. It did not. It worked for one update. When I updated today, the problem bonds all had the same wrong share price after the update. Very frustrating!

@TomVan1964 did the Real-Time Quotes option get re-checked somehow? That would make the problem reappear. Someone in another thread said that option keeps getting re-checked.

You can always solve the problem for securities like bonds that don't have a valid ticker by selecting them in the Security List and un-checking the Download Quotes box.

Indeed the Real-Time Quotes option got re-checked. I unchecked it again and ran One Step Update and that worked properly. However, after running that update, the Real-Time Quotes option was re-checked once again. Please have the team look at why this preference is not being properly saved / somehow getting re-checked when/after One Step Update is run.

Thank you for your reply @TomVan1964,

I'm not able to replicate the issue you describe with the Real-Time Quotes option getting re-selected every time you run One Step Update. Please try manually installing the current update patch and test to see if the issue persists. Please use this article to download the patch:

If the issue persists, then it may be a file specific issue. To start troubleshooting a file specific issue, I recommend trying a Validate/Super Validate. Please save a backup file prior to performing these steps.

    Validate:

    1. File
    2. Validate and Repair File...
    3. Validate File
    4. Click OK
    5. Close the Data Log
    6. Close Quicken (leave it closed for at least 5 secs)
    7. Reopen Quicken and see if the issue persists.

If the issue persists, proceed to Super Validate. If the issue is resolved after performing validation, then please disregard the instructions to Super Validate.

    Super Validate:

    1. File
    2. Hold CTRL + Shift and click Validate and Repair File...
    3. Super Validate File
    4. Click OK
    5. Close the Data Log
    6. Close Quicken (leave it closed for at least 5 secs)
    7. Reopen Quicken and see if the issue persists.

Please let me know how it goes!

I followed all the steps suggested. Had no effect on the issue. If I check my Preferences and verify the Real-Time Quotes is unchecked, then run a One Step Update, then review my Preferences immediately after One Step Update has completed, Real-Time Quotes is re-checked. For now, I'll just correct/verify Real-Time Quotes is unchecked before running One Step Update. There's a thread out there about the issue of Real-Time Quotes preference resetting. Hopefully, the Quicken team will be able to resolve in the future.

    Thank you for your reply,

If you would like to continue troubleshooting the issue, the next step would be restoring a backup from before the issue started (if possible) and testing to see if the issue is resolved in that newly restored file.

    Thank you!
