Why does Quicken hang when I add a new variable interest rate to a Mortgage loan?
With declining interest rates, it would be great if you could add additional interest rates to the rate table. Unfortunately, the table can only accept a set amount of rate changes (less than 10). Over a 25-year variable mortgage, this is the first problem. The second problem is, if you delete previous rate changes to make room for a new change, Quicken hangs and you are forced to use the "Forced Quit" option. The routine doesn't work.

Hello @Chris_in_BC,
To assist with this issue, please provide more information. Which version of Quicken are you using? You can see this information by going to Help>About Quicken. When did you first notice this issue? Do you keep your file directly on your local hard drive? Is the file synced with any cloud services, such as OneDrive, iCloud, or Dropbox? When you are updating the interest rate, are you clicking the blue "edit" next to the current rate showing on the account, clicking the down arrow for Adjustable-rate Loans, then clicking the Add new rate button? At what point in the process is your Quicken freezing?
Also, you mentioned that you contacted Quicken Support. Did you have the ticket number handy from when you contacted them?
I look forward to your reply!

Hi Kristina,
Version is R40.28 Windows 10
This error has been happening for a while (multi-year). Yes, I store my data on a local harddrive. I may have a portion of the data sync to Quicken's service, but I really don't use that. It freezes AFTER I enter in the new rate info (the CPU % goes up and never stops … I've let it run all night and it never finishes). I used the on-line FAQ references for Quicken support.

Thank you for your reply,
The most common causes of freezing/hanging are either program issues or file-specific issues. Based on the Quicken version you are using, you haven't updated your Quicken in a couple years. Is there a reason you're sticking with an older version of Quicken?
I recommend updating to the current version of Quicken, if possible, to see if that resolves the issue. You can download/install the current version by following the directions in this article:
If there is a reason that you are using the older version, I recommend reinstalling that older version patch, just in case this issue is being caused by a program issue. You can use this article to reinstall Version R40.28:
Please let me know how it goes!
