Home Depot getting CC-503 error

Quicken Windows Subscription Member ✭✭

I'm unable to get Quicken to work with My Home Depot Credit card. While I'm aware of Ticket 11290417, that refers to error CC-502. But the error I'm receiving is CC-503. I had the same problem for awhile with my Best But credit card, but now that's working. Both appear to be run by Citicard/bank, but trying those options doesn't work either. I contacted Citicard, and they have no idea what Quicken is, and they say everything is fine there and I should contact Quicken. I contact quicken, and they say everything is fine there and I should contact Home Depot and Citicard. (This tells a lot about the quality of their customer support.) What is taking so long? Is the ticket mentioned still open?

Have you tried doing Update Now? (Account Register > upper right Gear icon > Update Now). That will sometimes resolve several different CC-5XX error codes, including CC-503.

If that doesn't work, have you tried doing Reset Account? (Backup your data file before proceeding: Account Register > upper right Gear icon > Edit Account Details > Online Services tab > Reset Account)

If neither of these things works: Some financial institutions do not permit one to do Add Account or Set Up Now for one account while other accounts with them remain activated for downloads so all the accounts need to first be deactivated. Then the Add Account process should permit you to link the downloads to each of the existing accounts in Quicken.

Already tried those techniques. No joy. Same error.

The Home Depot account is currently not activated. The "Account Detail" window "Online Services" tab displays a "Set Up Now…" button.

The online feature used to work, and I need to preserve the transactions recorded in that account when it worked. Hitting the "General" Tab "Delete Account" button defeats the whole purpose of using Quicken, and therefore is not an option.

I think you misread what I'd suggested. I did not say to "Delete" the account…deleting accounts rarely solves any connection issues and, as you noted, is very unproductive relative to retaining historical data. I said to "Deactivate" the accounts. Two totally separate buttons and very different functions in Account Details.

You mentioned that Home Depot is not activated. Understood. Are your other Citi accounts (you'd mentioned Best Buy…maybe you have others?) still activated? If so, Deactivate (not Delete) those other accounts, too, and then try Add Account which should pull in data for all of the Citi accounts that have been deactivated.

The Home Depot card itself is activated. The account on Quicken is also activated. Quicken's online service is not working.

The "Account Details" tab "Online Services" has a "Set up Now…" button. I don't see a "Deactivate" button anywhere. There is a "Delete Account" button that I don't want to touch.

My Best Buy card's online service, also Citibank managed, account is working. Why does that work and Quicken's connection to Home Depot's service doesn't?

Calling the Home Depot/Citibank number doesn't help. They have no idea what Quicken is.

For what it's worth, Home Depot's Credit Center Services site displays four different colored cards. The one I have is orange. Clicking on it redirects to Citibank. When clicking on pay and manage it displays as a "Home Depot Consumer Credit Card". Is this a matching buzzwords problem? (Also, why doesn't Quicken do the obvious thing and display a generic Home Depot card, in this case the orange version, instead of the "Citi" logo? It doesn't show a generic Best Buy card either when searching for Best Buy accounts.)

I just tried again. Got a CC-503 error. Also directly logged into Home Depot web site. No problem there.

I got it to work. Home Depot Credit had to delete the online account info and I then had to reregister the card. That left two sets of credits card records to merge, which in my case was not too bad. In retrospect, there should be an easier means of merging two accounts, including identifying when unintended duplicate transactions are created after merging two credit card account files.
