Quicken classic web-based companion vs simplifi?

Hi, I'm a long-time quicken desktop/classic user, and am curious about switching to simplifi. My main question right now is this: Is the Web-based companion for quicken similar to simplify or are they totally different?

btw…I wish simplifi offered a trial (I know, they have 30-day money back, but that's a hassle for someone who legitimately just wants to try to see if it will work!).

    Hello @John Goode,

Quicken on the Web and Quicken Simplifi are very different. Quicken on the Web is designed as a companion app, and has less functionality than you'd find in Quicken Simplifi. It is tied to the Quicken file you create on the desktop version of Quicken Classic (for Windows or Mac).

Quicken Simplifi is designed as a stand alone app that is web-based. There is no desktop file with Quicken Simplifi. You access it through a web browser and/or by downloading the mobile app (available for Android and iOS).

Were there specific features or functionality you're looking for?

    I hope this helps!

Thank you! That helps. I'm guessing I'll ultimately have to sign-up for it to try it (and just get my money back if it doesn't work for me).

    My needs are fairly basic:

    • download transactions (I assume simplifi supports all the same institutions)
    • categorize transactions (again, I assume simplifi supports custom categories, subcategories, etc)
    • memo field on transactions
    • spending reports
    • download/update of quotes on stocks, etc

Let me know if I can't do any of the above on simplifi. Also, is there any video or screenshots anywhere so I can at least see what it looks like?

    Thank you again!

    Hello @John Goode,

Yes, Quicken Simplifi does offer the features of what you are looking for.

As for seeing what it looks like, you can view some Simplifi tutorial videos here that show the product. In this link, you can also find a Getting Started tutorial video.

Additionally, you can also reach out with more questions regarding Simplifi in Simplifi Community and Simplifi Support.

    Hope this helps!

Quicken Simplifi does NOT have a running balance. They force you to rely on the projected balance only. I'm stuck in the past with the comfort of running balances. I just need basic as well and use Quicken on the web almost exclusively. I only synch back to my desktop maybe once every 4 to 6 weeks. It's been working fine like this. About 6 credit accounts and 7 checking / savings accounts. No problem synching with the institutions and bill tracking has been flawless.
