Vanguard balance sets to zero then corrects in a couple days
Since my funds were moved from a prior administrator to Vanguard in July, I find that the balance will go to zero in Quicken for Mac every couple days then correct to the full balance a couple days later. I've spoken to Quicken. They say to speak to Vanguard. Vanguard points back to Quicken. None of my other institutions that I download from are having this issue.
It's very frustrating to see hundreds of thousands of dollars vanish in Quicken a couple times a week then reappear. At my wits end. Thinking I should just move the money to another administrator.

Hello @tomott61,
First, could you please tell us where your data file is located? Do you have it stored on your local hard drive, or in a folder that is synced with a cloud-based drive (e.g.: iCloud, DropBox, etc)?
Also, if you don't mind, could you please provide a screenshot of what you are seeing? If needed, please refer to this Community FAQ for instructions on how to attach a screenshot. Alternatively, you can also drag and drop screenshots to your response if you are not given the option to add attachments.
Thank you!

I have the same issue with my Vanguard account in Quicken. I have attached a picture showing the account value dropping to zero, increasing again, and then dropping to zero for the past few days. My data is stored on a local hard drive.

Hello @hawks28,
Thank you for adding to this discussion and providing a screenshot and additional information.
How long has this issue been occurring for you? When it first started happening, did anything specific occur before this started that you can recall (e.g.: installed a new update release, updated all online accounts, etc)?
Check back and let us know! Thank you.

Sounds like the price is getting set to zero on those days. Check the price history. Maybe if you download quotes again it will pick them up.
I'm staying on Quicken 2013 Premier for Windows.

Thanks for the suggestions/questions.
This has been happening since my 401k was moved to Vanguard about six months ago. I haven't really worried about it because the prices eventually do get downloaded and the values look correct. It's just that there are valleys when the prices are downloaded as $0 and peaks when the prices get downloaded with the correct amounts.
@volvogirl is correct that the prices are getting set to $0 on the days in question and then updated to the correct price on other days.
I can manually delete those $0s but it doesn't seem like that should happen or be required. It seems like there is something wrong with the connection between Quicken and Vanguard. Perhaps some sort of check needs to be included in the logic that somehow "skips" downloading ticker values of $0 and instead keeps the prior day closing value?
Thanks!

Thank you for following up with additional details.
To start with, I suggest you try signing out of your data file completely and then signing back in to refresh the registration token for your Online Connect Services. However, I do recommend that you first save a backup file prior to performing these steps.
- Navigate to the Quicken dropdown menu
- Sign Out...
- Sign back in using your Quicken ID (email) and password
- Follow the prompts to be taken back to your data file after signing in
Once that is done, see if the issue still persists. Note that it may not correct past occurrences, but I'd like to see if doing this will prevent it from reoccurring going foreward.
Let us know how it goes!
