Moving one 'account' to new Quicken owner
I am a small business owner and have used Quicken for Mac for 30+ years to handle both home and business checking accounts. In anticipation of selling our business and retiring, I would like to move only the business account to a new owner's Quicken account.
I downloaded Q on a new computer and imported the data, then deleted the personal accounts; however, the data showed back up with a warning that using 2 computers will cause data issues.
Then I created a new Q account and want to import the data, changing the ownership of the business account. If I change the ownership then delete the personal accounts, will that affect the data on my personal computer?

Hello @Jennifermcb,
If you don't mind, could you please elaborate and tell us exactly how you imported the data into a new computer? Did you— create a new file and create/use a Quicken transfer file to import the data, use a backup file and restored it on the new computer, use a cloud-based drive such as iCloud or DropBox with your existing data file, or did you use any other method I didn't mention— If so, please specify?
Check back and let us know! Thank you.

Anja, I purchased and downloaded a new copy of Quicken so that I can pass along to new owner. This Quicken has new login ID, etc. Then I exported a .qxf file, air dropped it to the computer with new Quicken, and opened with new Quicken. Account balances are correct, and I'm getting the pop up that says the accounts belong to my initial Quicken account, do I want to change ownership? I assume I can change ownership to new account, then delete the personal accounts, and the personal accounts with remain on my personal laptop? Both laptops have different Apple ID's.

Thank you for your reply,
I suspect what is happening is the Quicken Cloud still sees the copy of the file connected to the same cloud account as the original file. That would explain why the personal accounts reappeared after you deleted them.
To correct this issue, I recommend that you export the .QXF file again by going back to your original file, and selecting File>Export>Quicken Transfer file (QXF)…
Once you have created that transfer file, copy it to the new computer. Do not open that file right away. Instead, open Quicken on that computer and create a new file, starting from scratch. Doing this will create a new cloud account for that file.
Once the new file opens, close the add account dialogue. Go to File>Import>Quicken Windows File (QDF, QXF)….
In the finder window that comes up, locate and select the QXF file. Once that file imports, you should get a prompt to reconnect the accounts.
Since there is only one account you want connected in that file, you may want to dismiss that prompt, delete the personal accounts, then connect the business account by going to Accounts>Add Account…, following the prompts, and then making sure to link to the existing account instead of adding as new.
Please let me know how it goes!
