A Problem with Credit Card connected to Citi Cards

For the last couple of days there's been a problem with the download from one of my CitiCard credit cards.

The "Online Balance" down below the register is correct, however the four "Pending transactions" that show up after clicking the small black triangle are wrong.

The pending transactions include a $.90 charge dated 1/9/2025 that doesn't exist in the real world, and 3 transactions dated 1/14/2025 or 1/15/2025 that have posted as legitimate charges on the CC some days ago. The Citibank website shows NO pending transactions.

This is not a problem with my other Citi cards - one connected to Costo Anywhere VISA Card by Citi and the other connected to CitiBusiness Credit Cards. The credit card with the errant information is connected to Citi Cards.

    Hello @Tom Young,

Thank you for letting us know about this issue! To help troubleshoot, please provide more information. Is the card with the incorrect information the only account connected via the Citi Cards connection option? Is that account connected using Direct Connect or Express Web Connect+? Is the $0.90 pending transaction one that never existed, or is it an authorization that the merchant hasn't yet claimed (or never intends to claim)? Was the problem account recently deactivated/reconnected or reset?

I look forward to your reply!

"Is the card with the incorrect information the only account connected via the Citi Cards connection option?"

Yes. I thought I made that clear, but maybe not.

"Is that account connected using Direct Connect or Express Web Connect+?" EWC+

    Yes.

"Is the $0.90 pending transaction one that never existed, or is it an authorization that the merchant hasn't yet claimed (or never intends to claim)?"

It might be a charge associated with a Walmart transaction that occurred on the same day, but I don't really remember. I don't usually look at pending transactions after a download, but happened to do so yesterday, when I noticed that $.90 pending transaction. It wasn't in the website's pending transactions group yesterday, nor today.

"Was the problem account recently deactivated/reconnected or reset?"

It might have been. I had set this Account to download from the "Costco" entity some time ago when there was a more generalized problem with downloading from Citi and used this as a workaround. That was - what? - a few months ago? At some point, certainly sometime this month, I thought to change it back from the Costco entity to Citi Cards, though I don't keep a diary of these problems so I can't say exactly when that happened.

    Thank you for your reply,

Sorry for the delayed response; I was out of office for a couple days. Have any further problematic pending transactions downloaded, or is it still just the ones you mentioned in your original post? If you deleted any of the problem pending transactions, did they stay gone or did they redownload?

So that we can further investigate this issue, please navigate to Help>Report a Problem and send a problem report with log files attached. Please also provide the date, payee, and amount for the problem pending transactions. If possible, please also include a screenshot from the financial institution website, showing that the problem transactions are not pending there, and a screenshot of your Quicken register, showing those transactions as pending.

    Thank you!

The pending transactions I mentioned in my original post are still there. I turned off downloading pending probably on 1/22/25 and then yesterday turned that feature back on, so one additional, legitimate transaction has shown up as pending, with a 1/23/25 date.

I didn't originally set up pending transactions for posting in the Register so I can't delete them there, and there doesn't appear to be a way to delete them from the "Balance Downloaded from Citi Cards" window.

Enabling pending transactions for posting to the Register did not bring them up into the Register with subsequent downloads, where I might delete them.

I do believe the problem might be that those charges were shown as pending when the Account was being fed from the "Costco" entity just before I switched back to the "Citi Cards" entity, but as I did not regularly open the "Balance Downloaded from Citi Cards" window I just didn't catch it. And even if I did see that those pending charges were there before making the change from "Costco" to "Citi Bank" I probably would have still switched to Citi Bank as everything seemed to be working properly even though the entity - "Costco" - wasn't really correct.

I didn't mention this before, but all those pending transactions that I wrote about in my first post, except for the $.90 item, HAD downloaded into the Account - the "Posting Date" column for those transactions have a date, and the transactions are all "cleared." So those pending transactions in the "Balance Downloaded from Citi Cards" windows don't really have any transactions to Match to.

I'm not sure that this is a Quicken problem per se. I expect the old pending transactions are in some way earmarked with the Costco brand and the program doesn't recognize them now that the Account is earmarked with the Citi Bank brand. You'd think I might have had the same problem with the original switchover from Citi Bank to Costco, but that didn't seem to happen.

I think the data file is going to have to have some surgery to it to remove those old pending transactions.

Break out the old pocketknife. ☺️
You should be able to delete obsolete pending transactions yourself. In the Pending Transactions tab, there should be a Delete button next to each transaction line.
In the early days of Pending Transactions, I had to do that to two or three pending transactions that got stuck forever.

    @UKR

Well, I'm embarrassed; I don't think I've ever noticed that window, or if I did, I didn't give it any notice.

I only allowed for the downloading of pending transactions out of curiosity, figuring I'd turn it off in a few days, and I didn't allow them to show up in the Register as I'm pretty good at making manual entries when I use the card. The downloading of pending transactions seemed to work OK, so I pretty much forgot about turning that feature off or even bothering to look at the pending transactions, and if I did look at them it was via the drop-down list available by clicking the arrowhead next to the Online Balance.

    Anyway, PROBLEM SOLVED! Thank you.
