How do I match cash in investment account?

I have an Investing account that is of type "Brokerage". It is a checking account with Raymond James that can have securities in the portfolio. I maintain the transactions in Quicken and the Balance column reconciles to the bank statement. However, in Portfolio it shows a number for Cash that does not match the Balance in Transactions. Despite some postings in this forum suggesting there is a way to do it, I see no way to adjust the Cash number.

I have Version 8.0.1 (Build 800.56243.100) on MacOS macOS 14.6.1

Is there any way to get Cash value in Portfolio to match the Balance in Transactions?

    Hello @patjdixon,

That sounds like a frustrating issue. To better assist you with this issue, please provide more information. How is the cash balance incorrect (outdated, partially represented in a different holding, etc.)? Is this a connected account, or do you update the account manually? If possible, please post a screenshot of the incorrect information showing in the portfolio and the correct information in the balance (please make sure to redact any personal information). If needed, please refer to this Community FAQ for instructions on how to attach a screenshot. Alternatively, you can also drag and drop screenshots to your response if you are not given the option to add attachments.

I look forward to your response!

Q1: How is the cash balance incorrect (outdated, partially represented in a different holding, etc.)?

A1: The cash balance shows a different value ($30k higher) than the balance shown in Transactions.

    Thank you for your reply,

I notice in your screenshot of the Transactions section, you have a filter active. Is the balance still correct when you clear that filter?

    Thank you!

That was it, the filter was the problem, now the balance matches. The hard part now is that I reconciled everything to match the balance that showed in Transactions with the filer on, now I have to re-reconcile.

@Quicken Kristina Could you ask the developers if the appearance of the balance column when a filter is active is the intended behavior? When the register transactions are sorted by something other than date, the balance column figures are no longer correct and so they are displayed greyed out & in italics to indicate that the values don't indicate the actual account balance. It seems like they should do the same thing when a filter is active, but they don't - is that intentional or a bug? That would have been a useful indicator in this case, I think.

Thank you for the follow-up @patjdixon,

I'm glad to hear that clearing the filter got the cash balance to match what shows in the portfolio!

If you need further assistance, please feel free to reach out!

Thank you for joining the discussion @Jon,

There is nothing in our help articles warning about it, nor is there any visual indicator that the balance column isn't reliable with filters active. Additionally, when filtering by Status instead of Type, the balance column is greyed out. I suspect this is a bug and have forwarded it to the proper channels for further investigation and resolution.

    Thank you!
