Categories not showing on Budget Report

I run a Budget Report annually to keep general track of spending and have run into a problem getting the categories that I'm interested in to show on the report. I've been using the Categories tab in the report settings dialog and can select and deselect most categories and see the change reflected in the report. However, there are two categories that I can't get to show up: Auto Loan and Auto Purchase. They're both top-level categories and not a sub of Auto, but there's nothing special that I see about them. They both have entries in the Budget itself and expenses have been charged to them. Any idea of what might be going on? I've tried this with both the new and old versions of the dialog with no effect.

1st question, why is Auto Loan a category, and not an account?

And, why is Auto Purchase a category, instead of the Auto being an Asset?

And, you can't budget accounts, only Income & Expense categories.

These are both expense categories, or at least that's the list they show up on. We usually don't track things like this for various reasons — generally pay cash for our cars and don't track them as assets, etc. Our Quicken database goes back to when we started using it way back on DOS, so maybe something's not quite right in that regard. I might try creating them as new categories with a different name and see what happens.

    @rochrunner ,
    do us a favor, please.
Open Tools / Category List and maximize the view.
Using the gear icon in the upper right-hand corner add the Usage column to the view. Click Done.
Scroll the view to show both "Auto …" categories at the top.
Temporarily close the Account Sidebar (use the F11 function key to open/close it. We don't need to see this information)
Capture a screen snapshot of the top portion of the Category List view showing the two categories with all the columns.

What if you rename those two to ‘Car Loan’ and ‘Car Purchase’? I am thinking the ‘Auto space whatever’ is getting dropped because you also have the simpler ‘Auto’ category. Shouldn’t be but???

Or you could try ‘Auto-Loan’, or similar.

Thanks for the image. I was just checking to see if there really are transaction on file and the categories were defined correctly and not hidden. Looks OK to me.

Now let's go into the Planning tab / Budgets view.
Are these two categories included in the budget for budget years 2024 and 2025 (and earlier, as needed)?
Make a note of the budget's Name.

In the budget report in question, have you selected the correct budget name (same as noted above), budget year and Date Range?

Actually, we've since decided not to include these items in our "budget" report since they are so rare. Buying a car only occurs years apart and the loan payments are the first I've made on a car in over 40 years, and then only because of a promotion that was good for a discount (and I can pay the balance off after just 3 payments). 😉 Thanks for your help though!
