Can I search for a term/number in all accounts at once in Quicken for Mac

Quicken Windows Subscription Member ✭✭

I just switched to a MAC. I'm using Quicken for Mac and so far, so good. BUT, I can't figure out how to search for a payee, category, transaction amount across all the accounts at once like I could in the Windows version. I have to open each account , one at a time, and search in that account. Any advice?

It's simple, just go to the All Transactions register at the top of the sidebar. When you use the search box from here, you will be searching all accounts. Tip: if you know that the transaction you're looking for is, for example, from a banking account (as opposed to Investing or Property & Debt), search the Banking group register instead. The search will be a bit faster. Or search only in any of the other group registers that you know the target transaction is contained within.

One other tip: If you are currently looking at a transaction for the Payee or Category you want to search for, simply right click on that transaction and choose Report on (Payee) or Report on (Category) from the popup menu. This will generate a report (which can further customize) for that Payee or Category (or even a Tag).

    Hello @MurrayJ,

Thank you for reaching out with this question!

In Quicken for Mac, you can search across all accounts at once using the global search bar. Look for the magnifying glass icon in the top right corner of the Quicken window. Click on it and enter the payee, category, or transaction amount you are looking for. This should display matching results from all accounts. If you are not seeing the expected results, ensure that your register view is set to "All Transactions" by selecting it in the left sidebar.

Let me know if you need further guidance!

@MurrayJ One additional tip with searching after selecting the All Transactions register: your search will be on all accounts, including ones you have marked as closed or hidden. This makes it much easier than having to unhide or re-open account to search for transactions in them.

And one more tip that I find very useful. If you uncheck the box Accounts to Display - Closed in Settings > Sidebar then closed accounts will not be listed in the sidebar. However, those closed accounts (as long as they are not marked hidden), will be included in the overlying Account Group. This means that if you search the Account Group, the search will include both the visible and non-visible sidebar accounts in this group (as long as they are not hidden). I find this very useful that, for example, I can easily search all my closed credit card accounts without them taking up space in the sidebar.
