When will Quicken fix the Opening Balance issue?

I've seen the posts on this for well over a year and I can duplicate this 100% of the time. Due to Quickens OSU not always working, and the need to constantly deactivate/reactivate accounts for transactions to download, every time I do this (for Amex, Citi, and Chase at least—possibly more), the Opening Balance "issue" shows up (where Quicken puts in an erroneous opening balance), which of course, messes up the correct/real balance.

I know now to remember to manually check each account every time I have to go through this and delete the erroneous entry but I would think that this issue would be more important to fix than adding some of the new features in the various quarterly updates.

    Hello @mjonis,

I can see how having to correct the opening balance so frequently would be frustrating. Unfortunately, while this issue is a known issue that is being worked on, we do not have an ETA for when it will be corrected. We do have an article (linked below) for troubleshooting the issue, when it happens.

    Thank you!

@mjonis It's been suggested here multiple times that you enter the Correct Opening Balance in the Memo field of each account that you download into.

THEN, if the account goes wonky, you can quickly detect if it's the OB issue and correct to the proper value.

Thanks, but that doesn't resolve my issue of having to "fix" the opening balance. I know what the opening balance is, it's just very annoying that you have to manually fix it every time you are forced to deactivate/reactivate an account.

Unless what you're saying is that by entering it ONCE into the memo field, that permanently resolves the issue?

No, it doesn't fix the issue, Q is still researching that … but it makes identifying and resolving the matter easier because it instantly shows that the OB has changed.

One would think that by now, Quicken would warn you whenever you activate an account via Express Web Connect that you should save your opening balance somewhere prior to doing it. This has been a reproducible and dangerous problem since 2022 and obscure to almost every Quicken user until they discover it here after witnessing it first-hand.

I love Quicken and have been using it faithfully since 1997, but it is a frustrating journey.
