Year end archive

I used to do a year end archive, mainly so I could delete closed accounts without losing transactions.
Two things I have found out when I open the archived file:
- The archive file still contains transactions after the date I used for the cutoff.
- The recurring bills that I had set up to enter automatically are still there and will add transactions through the current date.
I have quit archiving and hide my closed accounts. Just wanted to add this for those who are wondering about year end archive.

Hello @waynes4680,
Thank you for sharing your experience with the year-end archive process. I understand how unexpected it can be to find transactions beyond the selected cutoff date still present and for recurring bills to continue generating new entries.
The year-end archive in Quicken is designed to remove transactions before the chosen date from the active file and move them into a separate archive file while maintaining account balances. However, the archive file still retains scheduled transactions, as Quicken does not automatically remove or disable them during the process. This is why recurring bills may continue to generate new transactions, even in the archived file. Additionally, closed accounts are not automatically removed, and Quicken does not allow the deletion of accounts that contain transactions.
Your current approach of hiding closed accounts is an effective way to manage historical data while keeping your active file uncluttered. If you ever decide to use the year-end archive again, you may want to review and manually delete or edit any recurring transactions that you no longer need in the archive file.

You probably want to vote for this idea:
Note that Quicken's yearend copy will not remove transactions that aren't reconciled and that includes transfer transactions if either side of the transaction isn't reconciled. And it will not touch any investment transactions.
