I have used Quicken for 29 years consecutively. What were the developers thinking with the latest upgraded of Q Premier on 4/1/25?

I own 15 stocks & have 48 stocks on my watch list. All stocks have always shown on my screen with the symbol: Ex: Stanley Black & Decker Inc has always shown as SWK not the long name.

For some reason the development team decided I can't have it that way anymore. Once the upgrade was done, all 63 stocks downloaded in the portfolio view with their legal names. And, to change it back to only the stock symbols showing in portfolio view, one must go in and make an INDIVIDUAL "renaming rule" for all downloaded transactions. Yes that is 63 stocks & 63 renaming rules. And of course new stock sales require the same extra work. What the heck? Who asked for this change? Fix real problems please.

My small screen is now taken up with long names that are not needed or even recognizable. I called support and Andres said that most people who trade stocks "don't know what the stock symbol is" - he gave example of APPL - "most people don't know the stock symbol for APPLE so want to see the legal name. Bull! If people don't know a stock symbol, they should not be investing or trading stocks. And why not give a choice? Let the uneducated rename every downloaded stock to the legal name instead of the symbol - don't punish the long time users who keep the company alive.

Please software team, change it back. And PLEASE consider your audience, Q Premier for Windows is for serious investors. Not someone starting with Quicken to pay bills.

If anyone else is bothered by this unnecessary change, please weigh in. Maybe the development team will change it back.

Personally, I like the change. It is what they did in the investment registers a while ago. I can now remove the ticker symbol column from my views. I have MANY securities and there are a number of them where the names are VERY similar. I need the ticker and the name to make it easy to differentiate them. Concatenating them together saves a tiny bit of space in the views rather than having to have both separately.

That all said, what might have made this change acceptable to everyone is the ability to replace the name column with the ticker in addition to adding the ticker to the front of the name if that is what you want. That way if you want just the ticker (like you could do before) you can have it but it you want both together, you can have that instead.

I agree it might be better to allow users to choose Ticker symbol only, Name only, or both.

I suppose one reason not to allow the Ticker only is that securities must have a name and Quicken tries to keep the names unique, but the Ticker can be blank, so if the Ticker only option was selected there would be no identifier for the security in the Portfolio views.

Note that Quicken does not require the security name to be the full downloaded name; you can go to the Security Details and change the name to whatever you like. To help differentiate between similarly named securities, I edit the names to put the Ticker first, like GE-General Electric, and that version of the name is displayed everywhere.

Hate this change! I export several Portfolio View to spreadsheets I've maintained for many years that have specific calculations I want and need. This change causes me to reformat every excel sheet that I export to from the portfolio view. I only use the symbols since I know the names of what I'm invested in. How can I get rid of the Name column in the Portfolio Views?

"How can I get rid of the Name column in the Portfolio Views?" Unfortunately, you currently can't get rid of it.

I want to see the Symbol only! It helps immensely when I need to reconcile holdings with my broker.

Agree, let there be a column for stock symbol only for those with many columns and need the room or just because it is a more elegant solution. Why do people have to change things for the sake of change?

There is NO SUCH REQUIREMENT as "Legal Name" in Q. Not a single one of my over a dozen securities have, in Q, their "full legal name".

"Fidelity" … multiple funds don't exhibit anywhere in their name the word Fidelity, or even an abbreviated version of it.

And, Fidelity's "Select" funds universally start with just the word "SEL".

The entire premise of this thread is based upon a falsehood.

None of my pivot tables work when I download data to ecxel, and you can't use software to fix because of the different symbol lengths. They could have just created a new field for this BS. Stupid change and it blows up all my analysis and spreadsheets that I've had since 2016. wtf?

Is there a way to go back to a previous build?

I "updated" to a previous version and "fixed" it: 61.16. Seems pretty stupid that I cannot update anymore. Nice job Quicken.

I agree that users should still have the ability to show only the ticker and not the security name. Or at least add a separate column for the ticker.

If the elimination of the ticker-only option was inadvertently removed then Quicken should add it back in with the next version update. To let Quicken Inc. know about this issue and to give them the opportunity to fix it, you might want to go to Help > Report a Problem and submit a report referring to it as a problem that needs to be corrected.

If the elimination was intentional or if Report a Problem does not result in the issue being resolved, then I think it would be appropriate to submit a Product Improvement idea to add it back in at https://community.quicken.com/categories/investments-windows .

It is certainly annoying that they made this change without notice or explanation.

@Bminor Note that there is already a separate Ticker Symbol field available in the Portfolio views, but you can't make it the first column. Could you modify your pivot tables so that they use the Ticker Symbol column instead of the Name field?
