Upgrade?

My version 10 has a bug. When creating a report it refuses to include one catagory. Wondering if an upgrade would help? How do I go about that?

Please confirm what version you're running by doing HELP, About Quicken. Also, which Q product are you running?

"Version 10" is almost 50 years old as the current version is R62.16. Also, that was a DOS version, not Windows.

And, tell us a bit more about that one category, to see if that helps to indicate a possible source of your issue.

I am using the old Quicken version 10 which has been out for several years. Mine is a Windows version.

The one category is FEES with two subcategories. I have done everything conceivable to try and narrow

down the problem as I thought there was something that was preventing the category to appear. But after spending considerable time, I have definitely come to the conclusion that it is definitely the fault of the program. Was wondering if there is any upgrade for the older Version 10 that I have installed. Trying to create some reports for this years income tax!!!!

Again I have the Premier 2010 Version R10, that's all the info I see. Are there any later upgrades to perhaps fix the bug that I have perhaps? Did not want to change from the 2010 version since it mostly was working well before this bug was discovered.

Just for the record "R10" isn't "the version number" is it the patch version 10 of Quicken 2010. Without the Quicken 2010 mentioned it could have been a patch from any "year version" of Quicken.

As for the problem. What is special about that category?

Without knowing what the actual problem is one can't tell if it exists in current versions or not.

The problem I am having is in creating a record. For some reason it will leave out a catagory called "FEES" with two subcatagories. No matter what I do, it just will not add this catagory to the report. Thus for income tax purposes I had to just pencil these items in, when doing my taxes. Makes me wonder what other catagories I might be missing? To miss a deduction because my program is not working as it should, does not make for a happy user.

NOTACPA — Tried to answer your question. Doing exactly as you request HELP & About Quicken, the popup I get is all there is. I have added it to this message.

@leenoga - make sure that the account that the transactions are in is not excluded. Tax reports automatically exclude certain accounts and to get the transactions to show, you need to manually add the account.

I can tell you categorically that Q is going to do nothing to fix a 15 year old product.

SO, if you're convinced it's a bug (but apparently one that no one else is experiencing) then your only option is to upgrade.

BUT, I think that @CaliQkn's suggestion looks viable also.

    @leenoga ,
just to confirm … for your Quicken 2010, the release R 10 is the highest available patch release level.
In order to "upgrade to a higher release" you would have to download and install a newer yearly version of Quicken. The Quicken 2013 version is offered as a free installation, at the Deluxe feature level and with all available patches (bug fixes) already preinstalled: https://assistant.quicken.com/patch/ASDES5672FR13/Old_Products/QWIN/QW2013DLX.exe

That is the highest available Quicken version (year) level that I can recommend for you. Any more modern version requires that you subscribe to (purchase), download and install the current Quicken Classic Deluxe (or higher feature level). There is nothing else available for free in versions between 2013 and 2025.

But that may not be necessary.
I'd rather we try to troubleshoot your problem with the Fees category and its subcategories first.
Please go into Tools / Category List and capture an image of the Fees category and its subcategories so that we can see the definitions you made.
Also, please tell us what exact report you are trying to generate: Tax Schedule? Tax Summary? Itemized Categories report? Other?

How do I post a screenshot in the community from windows

Please save images to files of file type PNG or JPG only. They're easier to work with than PDF files.

The only possible reason for the report I am trying to generate is just a regular report, "Bank Transactions" with a certain tag number (rental), is that I made a resent change to the catagory. I added two subcatagories. But that should not have prevented the program from recognizing the changed catagory. But I think this has something to do with my program from recognizing it. Appears to be a program bug. But perhaps does not occur very often is why there are no complaints on it.

Without seeing what you have changed, no one will be able to help you. We don't have x-ray vision.

    1. Show us the categories using Tools / Category List, as requested earlier
    2. Have you made sure that the report has been configured to include the new subcategories?

@leenoga is fee a part of a split transaction? If so, verify that the split transaction has the appropriate tag noted within the split.

Have another question. When I try to make or customize a report to have more than one tag, it will not create the report. I have never tried doing this with multiple tags before, thus have not encountered this problem.

CaliQkn not sure how to answer that question but I will have to say NO. The Fee category is just one of the categories that I have chosen to run a report on a rental unit. But for some unreal reason it chooses not to add that category to the report. Very Strange!!!! This one I could not figure out.

@leenoga - There is something else you can try. When you customize the report, deselect all categories and then select the categories again. Do the same for tags. Deselect all, and then click the ones you want. Run the report again and see if that changes anything.

The other thing to try is to just create a new report again from scratch. It could be just that the original report that isn't working correctly for some reason.
