Connecting accounts on one device deauthorizes them on the other device

I have the same problem on my laptop and PC. When I reset the accounts on my PC, it deauthorizes my credit card accounts on my laptop. When I reset the laptop, the PC accounts are deauthorized. I signed in/out of Quicken many times, but had no joy.
This started two days ago.

Hello @Dennis Mc,
Thank you for letting us know you're seeing this issue. To help troubleshoot, please provide more information. Which financial institutions is this happening with? Are you seeing any error messages/codes when this happens? When I check on our end, I can see some financial institutions showed an account not found error recently; are you seeing CC-800 or CC-506 errors? Are the problem accounts connected in multiple Quicken files?
I look forward to your reply!

How are you moving the data file between the PC and the laptop? Is the data file being saved on a network drive or on some Cloud storage site? Or are you physically moving the data file between the two and, if so, how are you doing that?

The error is CC-800; the accounts are Chase, Elan Services, USAA, and my bank, Phoenixville Federal S&L. My multiple Vanguard accounts are unaffected. If I link any of those accounts to my laptop, they are de-linked on my PC, and when I link any of those accounts on my PC, they are unlinked from my laptop. I can no longer use two computers to update my accounts, but Quicken works fine on one or the other.

Thank you for your reply,
You mentioned this started just a couple days ago. Was there anything else that happened around the same time, such as a program or computer update? Do you have these accounts connected in just the 2 files (one on each device), or do you have them connected in other files also?
Thank you!

The problem only manifests if I use both devices to update my accounts, which I seldom do. I just noticed it a week ago. Quicken works fine if I update exclusively on either device. If I update on both devices, it unlinks both of them, so neither will update. I deleted and erased the file on my laptop to synchronize my Quicken files, but no joy. My laptop and desktop have the exact same files, but I can not use both machines to update. I use only my laptop and one PC for Quicken.

AFAIK, banks keep track of the IP address of the computer which is accessing their servers.
If, unexpectedly, another computer with a different IP address accesses their servers, saying that they are you, reauthorization will be required. Who knows, this could be a hacker trying to get at your data, not your usual computer and not Intuit's data aggregation server …0 -
Thank you for your reply @Dennis Mc,
So that we can check on our end for insights as to what may be causing this, please navigate to Help>Report a Problem and send a problem report with log files attached. Please do this on both devices where you're seeing this issue.
Please let me know once you've sent logs.
Thank you!

@Dennis Mc - Please reply to my previous post?
Also, you said:
The problem only manifests if I use both devices to update my accounts, which I seldom do.
Does this mean that you are accessing the data file from two different computers at the same time?

Boatnmanica, no. The data file resides on each device. I had been doing this for about 15 years without incident. However, I have noticed that lately, I rarely see the Quicken message about synchronizing files when I start Quicken.

Today, I relinked Chase on my laptop and updated only my Chase account. On my PC, Quicken delinked all five accounts, including Chase. If I update any single account on one device, Quicken delinks all five on the other device.

Quicken Kristina,
I sent logs from both devices. I found that if I update only one account on a device (laptop, for example), Quicken delinks every account, including those I did not update, on the PC.

I had a similar thing happened yesterday. Glad I read this thread today…
Financial Institution: Municipal Employees CU of OKC. Last 2 accounts added in Feb. and March added to Q without issue (2 factor authentication). Express Web Connect used by the FI. Went yesterday to add a new account. It said not to add and also said the account added in March didn't exist and to deactivate it. It does exist. So I created a test file for that FI and the only accounts that it showed to be available to add ot Quicken was the original account created December, 2022 and the new account that I wanted to add yesterday. The other 2 accounts are active in my main Q file and work fine but not listed as available to be added to the test file. The FI says they see no problem on their end and requested I make a test file which I had already done. Now they scratch their head….
Windows 11 (2 separate computers)..... Quicken Premier.. HAVE USED QUICKEN CONTINUOUSLY SINCE 1985.

As financial institutions install more stringent security protocols and online connection methods become more secure, these workarounds to be able to use the Quicken data file on multiple computers may no longer be viable.
Financial institutions have a vested interest in protecting their customers' accounts and are becoming less willing to allow third party access to their accounts and systems. As a compromise, they are willing to allow access only if they can verify the users' identity. The authentication process is part of this identity verification and establishing a link between them and Quicken. I have a feeling that authentication and link is device specific as @UKR mentioned in his comment.

I believe account authentication is device-specific, but is it exclusionary? Quicken Cloud negotiates updates after authentication, and until recently, it worked well on multiple devices, including computers and phones. Quickens' position is that multiple devices are OK to use. I suspect my problem is unique to me since I don't see a flood of other complaints.
