Problem with QFX files (Q Mac)

Quicken Mac Other Member

I have recently upgraded from Quicken 2007 to Quicken Classic and the files came over with the wrong monthly totals not agreeing with the banking site (CIBC). CIBC does not support syncing so I downloaded a QFX file and updated my Quicken. This time the totals were off by $500. Is this a Quicken or a bank issue?

    Thank you for your replies,

I'm glad to hear you were able to find the source of the discrepancy!

To answer your question, there is some amount of automatic syncing when you update your accounts, as long as you have Sync turned on. That said, if you have made changes on one of the companion apps (Quicken Mobile or Quicken on the Web), according to our article on the Quicken Cloud:

When you use Quicken Mobile or Quicken on the Web, the Quicken Cloud will store any changes you make to your transactions; be sure to sync your cloud data on Quicken Desktop (Windows or Mac) before making changes on the desktop software, otherwise, changes you've made on web or mobile may be overwritten in your desktop data file.

    @Gilles9,

I checked the connection that you pointed out. According to our FIDIR (list of supported financial institutions), that specific connection supports Web Connect only.

That is why you see the error message recommending using Web Connect if you try to connect to it.

    I hope this helps!

    Hello @BuckyB,

    Thanks for reaching out!

In order to determine the root cause of the issue, I suggest creating a test file and attempting to import the QFX files in to see if the same issue occurs with the balances. You can create a test file by navigating to File > New > Start from Scratch. I do suggest deactivating your CIBC accounts from your main file before adding them into the test file to import the QFX.

Let me know how it goes!

Quicken Connect does work with CIBC credit cards

I do not know for other CIBC bank accounts, but I think it should work also with Quicken Connect

It is fairly recent that CIBC works with Quicken Connect, give it a try

Thanks Quicken Jasmine….deactivating CIBC accounts? I couldn't link my Quicken to CIBC because they're not set up or participating yet. The other major Canadian banks are.

Another Question…. Is there a setting to automatically sync the mobile app with the desktop or does it require a manual imput. So far I have to do it manually in either direction to sync.

I found the source of my discrepancy issue….when Quicken brought the files over it added $500 before the forwarded total.
