2FA Prompt Every Update (John Deere Credit Card)

I know this is likely one of the least common financial institutions used, but since Quicken is dutifully connecting to and refreshing the loan for my tractor every day I thought I would point out that it's the only banking institution out of 13 I use that's requiring a 2FA code on every single refresh. I update daily each morning. It's just a simple interest car loan, where the car is a tractor. The name in Quicken account setup is "John Deere Credit Card". For a 1x a month payment I go through this exercise every. single. day. I live in the country w/ poor cell service. Getting an SMS 2FA code outside of Apple Messages is no easy task. Gotta run outside my house and hold my phone up to the sky. Brutal.

    Hello @AGGSpeaker,

Thanks for sharing your experience—it definitely sounds frustrating, especially with spotty service making the 2FA process such a hassle.

I checked your account and see you’re encountering an internal FDP-185 error. This typically relates to issues with how the financial institution (FI) handles Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). While Quicken facilitates the connection, the decision to prompt for 2-Factor Authentication with each update comes directly from the bank's system.

You might want to check the security settings on the John Deere Credit Card website—some banks allow you to adjust or disable MFA for certain types of connections. If those options aren’t available online, your best bet would be to call the bank directly and ask if there’s any flexibility in how MFA is applied to Quicken connections.

For more technical details, here’s our support article on the FDP-185 error.

    Hope this helps!

    Good suggestion by @Quicken Anja
If I may add … if you can't get a change made by the bank (or until they do), how about removing this account from the One Step Update Settings.
Once a month go to the account register and, from the gear icon, select Update Now to download new transactions.
This avoids the daily hassle with the MFA prompt to your cell phone.

It might also be possible to change the MFA prompt to go to your email account instead of a cell phone number …

@UKR No such thing in Quicken Mac. 😉 If the account is connected for downloads, it will try to download each time all accounts or all Quicken Connect (EWC/EWC+) accounts are updated.

Which brings me to the suggestion of whether it's worth just disconnecting this account from downloads. Create a scheduled monthly transaction and once a month, log into the John Deere account to get the correct payment amount with interest & principal split, an edit the scheduled transaction in Quicken.

Thanks for the suggestions. Ultimately the bank made the choice for me in that the daily updates must have met some security threshold and I can no longer connect to John Deere Financial via Quicken. Errors out so I disconnected from updates. The stated reason is pure conjecture on my part so I can't say for sure.

And as two commenters have pointed out, for a monthly fixed amount bill it's not that big of a deal. I just like knowing what the interest vs. principal values are, plus actual balance at a glance in the Quicken Dashboard.
