Enhance CSV transaction file import to include Subcategories and Tags with spaces

Quicken Windows Subscription Member ✭✭

The CSV transaction file import that was developed for Mint conversions is a nice tool that other users are taking advantage of however, it lacks the ability to use Subcategories, and it also does not accept Tags that have spaces in them (instead of using the Tag with the space, a new Tag is created with a dash (-).

It would greatly improve the usefulness of this tool if a "Subcategory" column was added and if the tool would accept Tags with spaces.

I don't think a separate Subcategory column is needed. That would break compatibility with the Mint format and limit the import to one level of subcategories.

But if it used colons to separate the main and subcategories in the Category column, as elsewhere in Quicken, you could have multi-level subcategories and still be compatible with Mint. Example - Education:Tuition would be the Tuition subcategory of Education.

Hi, I have Subcategories and when I attempt to load from CSV file using Category:Subcategory , the Category:Subcategory is changed during the load process: the colon is removed and replace with a hyphen and a new category is created. No need to change the load process or format as Jim Harman states, Quicken needs to accept the Category:Subcategory combination as entered. Is there something more that needs to happen when using the Category:Subcategory???

When attempting to import transactions with subcategories, it does not recognize the nesting and created brand new categories. Can we import transactions with nested categories? If not can we add this functionality?

Note that as recommended above, the format for subcategories is apparently Category:subcategory and for multiple Tags it is tag1:tag2. This information comes from the sample file that Quicken can now create, which is presumably correct.

The in-product info when you initiate an import has been corrected, but the Help still needs to be updated to include the formats for subcategories and multiple Tags.
