For Mac: Running Deluxe and Business on the same computer.

(For Mac) I am using Quicken Deluxe for my personal finances. If I set up a new Quicken Account for my business, and purchase Quicken Business, can I run both programs on the same computer?

    Hello @TereM,

Thank you for reaching out with this question. If you are using the subscription version of Quicken Deluxe, then upgrading to Quicken Classic Business & Personal will upgrade your existing subscription (Deluxe would become the Business version). If you prefer to keep your business and personal information separate, you can create a new Quicken file for the business data.

If you create the business subscription under a different Quicken ID, then it would still be the same program, but you would need to sign in with the Quicken ID associated with the business subscription to access the business features.

If you are thinking of using Quicken Business & Personal (the one that is not Quicken Classic), then that is a cloud-based application that you would access through your computer's browser or through the mobile app. It would be separate from Quicken Classic, so you would be able to run Quicken Classic and have Quicken Business & Personal open in a browser window. Please note that there currently isn't a way to transfer data from Quicken Classic to Quicken Business & Personal.

    I hope this helps!

Thank you for your reply @TereM,

It's a bit confusing due to the similarity in names. Quicken offers two business & personal products:

    1. Quicken Business & Personal is cloud-based (it is Quicken Simplifi with business features added). There is no conversion tool for transferring data from Quicken Classic to Quicken Simplifi.
    2. Quicken Classic Business & Personal is the top subscription tier of Quicken Classic.

As @jacobs clarified, with Quicken Classic Business & Personal, the only data that you would not be able to access if you upgrade, then downgrade again would be data input in areas that are unique to the Business version of the software (for example, anything in the Business tab in Quicken).

The data would not be lost though, just inaccessible (due to being locked behind features that aren't available in the Deluxe version of the program).

As @MontanaKarl stated, you do not need a 2nd subscription. You would want to upgrade your existing subscription. Having a 2nd subscription would create extra cost and unnecessary hassle (needing to remember to logout of one Quicken ID to login with the other Quicken ID in order to access the additional features…a process you would need internet access to do).

    Thank you!

My intent was to keep Quicken Deluxe as a separate unit,  and then buy Quicken Business to see if I like it ( a test run at my expense), and then migrate my data over if I liked it.  When I called Customer Support they said that if I upgraded to Quicken Business, and later downgraded to Quicken Deluxe, I would lose data in the downgrade/transfer.

    For Quicken Kristina:

Is there a “classic” Quicken Business & Personal that runs on my computer (not cloud based), like I do Quicken Deluxe? I often work in areas where I don’t have internet access.

If I understand your last comment. If I “upgrade” to quicken Business & Personal, there is no way to migrate my Quicken Deluxe data over to Quicken Business & Personal, and I would have to start from scratch inputting my personal data into Quicken Business & Personal?
