YTD Investment Performance Report

I wonder why Quicken doesn't add another column to the standard Investment Performance report to also show YTD returns (in addition to the current average annual returns)?

It's such a basic piece of information that you see everywhere on any financial/brokerage website, but it's a big hassle to get at in Quicken.

There must be a deep technical reason that I don't readily see. I would appreciate a response from the Quicken team. Thank you.

(For reference, I'm using Quicken Classic Premiere R63.21 Build 27.1.63.21 Windows 11 Enterprise.)

@hn14246 I know the YTD Return is not available in the Investment Performance report, but YTD Return is available in the Portfolio view in the Investing tab. You can customize the current view or create a new one by adding or removing columns. Then you can create an investment report by clicking on "Export" to export to Excel or clipboard to create a text file.

Thanks for your thoughtful question. You might want to try the suggestion from @CaliQkn to view YTD returns in the Portfolio view under the Investing tab, where you can customize columns and export the data if needed.

Additionally, since YTD returns aren’t currently included in the Investment Performance report, I recommend creating an Idea post on the Quicken community forum to request this feature.

Our Development and Product teams frequently use our idea posts in order to improve Quicken and implement new features requested by customers.

If you set the Investment Performance Report (IPR) date range to less than one year, the annualized percentages shown assume that the performance will continue at the same rate for a full year. This is useful for fixed price securities like money market funds, but not so much for other securities.

If Quicken were to add a column to the IPR, I think it should show the straight percentage return, not annualized, and not fixed at YTD. It would then show the return for whatever date range you select, including YTD if that is what you want.

But there is a way to see YTD return on the current IPR. If you set the date range to Yearly and Current year, the report shows YTD gains or losses assuming that the security prices are flat for the rest of the year. There may be some differences between the reported percentages and those shown elsewhere, depending on the timing of any purchases or sales you have made during the period.

Note also that the data in the Return (%) YTD column in the Portfolio views is downloaded from Quicken's quote provider and is not affected by the timing of any purchases or sales. It only includes publicly traded securities with valid ticker symbols, excludes ETFs for some reason, and is often out of date. See this discussion
