Bank of America Discontinued Importing of QFX Files - CC-885 (QMAC)

For many years I've downloaded QFX files from my online Bank of America account and imported into Quicken for Mac classic. Works fine and it avoids needing to have quicken directly connect to my Bank of America account.

This appears to have stopped working last week. I can still download the QFX files from Bank of America, but I get an error when trying to import. I even have QFX files from a few weeks ago that no longer can be imported, even though they worked earlier this month.

Did something in Quicken change to prevent the importing of Bank of America QFX files? I know they are making changes to the processes for Quicken to get the data for you, but I'm not using any direct connectivity - just trying to import a QFX file.

Classic Quicken for Mini Mac

Just downloaded the most recent update of Quicken. Could not download .qfx file for BOA (Bank of America). Have not had this problem before. Something new in the Quicken update?

When you said you could not download a QFX file for Bank of America, do you mean that the option vanished from their website? If not, then what process are you following, and at what point in the process is it failing? Are you seeing any error messages/codes?

The BOA qfx file is on my computer. Quicken read it and said it had 29 transactions. Then it displayed this:

"Download unavailable! Quicken is unable to update this account because WEB Connect support for your financial institution has been wither temporarily or permanently discontinued. CC-885"

But the downloaded BOA qfx file is still on my computer so it looks like BOA did its job…but Quicken is having trouble reading it.

I am having an issue with downloads from Bank of America as well. I download via webconnect for Quicken 2018 and above on my Mac. Now I am getting Web Connect is temporarily or permanently discontinued from being supported by my financial institution cc-885. Is there an issue with Quicken and Bank of America?

I have the same sudden problem that just appeared. My last download that worked was 9/28/2025. Bank of America chat says to try again or contact Quicken. A call to Quicken support said wait 24 hours and try again.

When in Quicken, I import the BOA qfx file and get a quick message that says there are 29 transactions that lasts only a moment then the error msg displays…as shown in my previous posting.

I'm having the exact same issue after updating Quicken. My qfx file downloaded from BOA displays the same error: "Download unavailable! When I download my BOA transactions via qfx file, Quicken gives the following error box: "Download unavailable. Quicken is unable to update this account because Web Connect support for your financial institution has been either temporarily, or permanently discontinued [CC-885]."

This has never happened until this morning when I updated Quicken before opening.

The CC-885 error you’re seeing isn’t related to your Quicken update. This is happening because Bank of America has discontinued support for QFX (Web Connect) downloads.

The only way to continue downloading transactions into Quicken is by reauthorizing your accounts to connect with Bank of America via Express Web Connect+ (Quicken Connect). You can find more information about this change in this Community Announcement.

I'm puzzled by this. If Bank of America stops providing QFX files as a download option on their web site, then this is clearly not something Quicken can control. And if we can't get a QFX file, there is nothing to import.

But if the Bank continues to provide the file (it is available as of the time of this posting), I don't understand why I cannot import it, unless Quicken has disabled this ability within the software itself. Or perhaps the Quicken software always had an internal check to some central database to see if imports were permitted for any given bank?

The list of “participating partners” is maintained by Intuit (Quicken Inc pays Intuit for this service). And so yes if the financial institution is removed from this list, Quicken will refuse to import the QFX file even if the financial institution is still generating the file.

EDIT And I should have added, it is up to the financial institution what they tell Intuit they want to support. In this case their website is out of sync with they have decided.

Yes, it does. There is one line in the QFX file which identifies the financial institution, and that ID number is checked by a Quicken server to see if the financial institution is participating with Quicken. In the short-term, you could consider editing line in the downloaded file to change the ID number to one which is supported; Google "What is INTU.BID" for more information about this. But since this change was initiated by BoA, I'd guess they might remove the QFX file format from their site sometime in the future (unless they are still supporting Intuit's QuickBooks, which also uses the QFX file format).

There is an announcement message on this site from Quicken which states that BoA has discontinued support for QFX files, and will only support online connectivity via Quicken Connect going forward.

Thanks for the details and clear explanation. I'm not a big fan of having Quicken connect to my bank account directly, which is why I liked the download/upload option. Appreciate that this decision is outside of Quicken's control, but I'll need to consider whether to renew my subscription (the download/upload was the only thing I used in Quicken in one form or another since about 1995!) or adopt the new protocol and have Quicken connect and download the data for me.

I really liked this method of importing data. Has anyone tried the new BofA connection method to see if it works without messing up previous transactions? I updated another brokerage and now the balances don't match. This is very frustrating. It sounds like it is on the BofA side…..would it help to complain to them?

Looks like I am not alone. I ran into this problem yesterday and thought it would resolve with some coding magic. I have never liked the automatic download feature in Quicken so I always go to my financial institute website to download transactions to Quicken. Is it now up to Quicken to provide the "Express Web Connect" feature discussed in this thread?

Express Web Connect, or EWC, or Quicken Connect on a Mac, is Quicken’s normal way of connecting to financial institutions. EWC+ is a newer variation where users are taken to the financial institution’s website to log in, and a digital token is sent back to Quicken for access, so Quicken never stored your login credentials. More and more large financial institutions have been changing to use EWC+ because they consider it more secure.

I am using Quicken for the Mac v. 8.3.2. That is the latest update and I recently updated to it.

I am receiving the .qfx file from the Bank, but when I try to update Quicken I am getting this message:

"Quicken is unable to update this account because Web Connect support for your financial institution has been either temporarily, or permanently discontinued [CC-885]."

This problem just started happening this week, and after the recent system update. How can this be resolved?

Just to give you a flavor of what happens next. Your data upon authorization will be aggregated by Intuit and Quicken will access from there.

The EWC+ connections ask for a lot. Below is a sample.

"We may create and use de-identified information for our business purposes, including to analyze the effectiveness of our products and services, to improve and add features to our services, and to analyze the general behavior and characteristics of users of our services. We may use this anonymous, aggregated, or de-identified data and share it with third parties for our lawful business purposes."

It strikes me that the decision to move from EWC to EWC+ should be independent of the decision to allow users to download and import their own QFX files. EWC+ may indeed be a more secure method than EWC in providing Quicken with a token instead of direct credentials to allow them to download your transaction files from your Bank of America account. But allowing users to download their own files is a completely independent process and does not require Quicken to have any knowledge of the user's Bank of America credentials, account, balances, etc. Everything is simply stored locally on the users machine.

There are a few possibilities I can think of:

Bank of America haphazardly told Quicken to disable QFX importing as part of their transition to EWC+, not realizing these should be independent decisions and they should be able to move to EWC+ and still allow download/importing, or
Quicken disabled this as part of transitioning Bank of America to EWC+ even though Bank of America did not explicitly ask for this, or
Quicken technology is such that the move to EWC+ precludes the ability to separately download/import files (not sure why this would be the case, anything is possible), or
Bank of America has a commercial/licensing reason for wanting to disable the download/importing function and force users to only access their transactions through Quicken EWC+.

It’s not #2 or #3. There are lots of financial institutions which support QFX file downloads as well as online connectivity. And Quicken supports whatever a financial institution allows.

BoA customers need to contact/press BoA on why they have dropped support for downloading and importing files into Quicken.
