Net worth reports corrupted by Paycheck Wizard programming error
This was posted 2 years ago with no response from Quicken. [Removed - Disruptive] I would really like for this problem to be corrected.
Prior post:
March 2022 introduced an almost fatal flaw into the Quicken system by corrupting the paycheck wizard splits. The solution proposed by Quicken is to roll back to an unaffected version prior to that date and re-enter all transactions since. That is NOT a reasonable situation for most users.
Can the Net worth reports and graphs have a configuration option added to allow them to be produced using the deposit total, which is still correct, rather than the corrupted underlying splits? This seems to be a much more elegant solution than a brute-force rollback and reenter.
My Net Worth reports are USELESS at this point. This is a major feature of the software, and allowing it to stay broken is just bad form treatment of your users. … come up with a fix rather than just dumping the problem back onto your users to fix your error.

Hello @neiltramel,
Thank you for sharing your experience, though I am sorry that you have been experiencing this issue for so long.
Can you provide more information about this issue? What exactly are you seeing happen? Where is your data file located? Is your file being synced/backed up by any third-party services like OneDrive, Dropbox, or Carbonite?
Additionally, screenshots could be helpful. If needed, please refer to this Community FAQ for instructions on how to attach a screenshot. Alternatively, you can also drag and drop screenshots to your response if you are not given the option to add attachments.
I'm not sure about your request for the Net Worth reports to be able to exclude "corrupted splits". This report is all-encompassing. However, we do have a section in the Community for idea requests. If you post the idea there, others can vote on it. If it receives enough votes, it will be considered for implementation.
Looking forward to your response.

The paycheck wizard for a deposit on 12/30/2021 matched details with the actual deposit and transaction total in the bank register. Apparently, the details of this transaction were copied to all prior occurrences of this paycheck wizard split back to the beginning of the register in 2013. The transaction totals for all of these deposits are still accurate, but when you look at the wizard splits they are a copy of the 12/30/2021 transaction. The net worth report uses all the details to summarize the bank account total, which in this case uses 8 years (400 paychecks!!!) of erroneous wizard split details. The transaction totals were not changed and therefore the register does reconcile to the current actual balance with the bank.
Even if I wanted to go back and update the paycheck wizard details for each of the 400 errant transactions, the paycheck stubs for those periods are long gone. And since some amounts from these splits were transferred to other accounts (403/b for example), simply plugging a number in would ripple errors thoughout the Quicken data file.
Bottom line: The cash account is grossly overstated with the overwritten paycheck wizard details, while the actual transactions and account balance are correct and reconcile to the bank. This is what causes the amount in the Net Worth report to be overstated.
Your question answers. The data file is on the PC hard drive. Not being automatically synced or backed up.

Thank you for following up with additional information.
I do have a few options for you. They are the only options that I know of.
- You can go back through time, correcting all of the incorrect paychecks.
- You can restore a backup from before the issue happened.
I know neither option is ideal, but no feature in Quicken can automatically undo/fix this for you. I would also suggest validating your file, as it is possible that it could clear out some of it for you.
To do this:
- Save a Backup.
- Go to File.
- Select Validate and Repair file…
- Check the first box for Validate file.
- Click Ok.
It may also be worth giving Quicken Support a call, so they can screenshare with you and possibly walk you through it.
Hope this helps.
