Start anew

I’ve been a longtime user of Quicken over 30 years. I’d like to clean it up. Start fresh. There are lots of accounts that I don’t use anymore lots of categories that can be forgotten some that need renaming etc. what’s the easiest way to do and when? I don’t want to screw up reports that I use for taxes at the end of the year. Thank You.

Rather than starting over, have you considered just HIDING things that you no longer need?

FIRST, take a backup … just in case, then:

For Accounts, do TOOLS, Account List and click EDIT adjacent to such an account's name and "Display Options". Then you can click "Close Account" (which, BTW, isn't a reversible action) and/or "Hide Account Name …"

For Categories, do TOOLS, Category List and check "Hide" adjacent to the appropriate categories.
