How do I download Quicken data files from online Bank of America account no longer an option.

Prior to November of 2025, I was able to download a Quicken import file from Bank of America's website with the date and month selection. I would then select the stmt_y2 import file, download it to my laptop and then import it into MS Money. I do not presently have a subscription to Quicken. What are my options now that Bank of American no longer offers Quicken import file downloads.

Thank you, Jo

    Hello @JoCi,

    Thanks for reaching out!

Just a heads-up—this is the Quicken Community, so we can only provide help for Quicken products. Since your question is about MS Money, we aren’t able to assist here.

You’ll need to contact Microsoft support directly for guidance on importing Bank of America data into MS Money.

    Thanks for understanding!

You’ll need to contact Microsoft support directly for guidance on importing Bank of America data into MS Money.

That is probably impossible since Microsoft Money support was discontinued on or before the year 2014.

@Quicken Anja Microsoft Money was discontinued years ago, so there is no support from Microsoft for it.

@JoCi I would think your options are to either switch to a different bank which offers downloads that Microsoft Money can import, or switch to Quicken so you can connect to Bank of America to import your data. If you use Reddit at all, you might try looking at or posting your question in the subreddit for Microsoft Money (r/microsoftmoney).

    Hello @UKR & @jacobs,

Thank you for clarifying that Microsoft Money has been discontinued. Since it is no longer supported and falls outside of Quicken products, we (moderators) are unable to provide guidance on it here.

I’ve moved this discussion to the Water Cooler so that other community members who are familiar with it are welcome to chime in.

    Thanks!

One addition: BoA also downgraded their support of Quicken recently (see many other posts), so question is how long BoA will support the 'grandfathered in' support for old accounts? Wouldn't surprise me if they stop in few years (that means I'll move away from BoA)

I'm not sure what you mean by "'grandfathered in' support for old accounts?" It is my understanding that BoA has not grandfathered in any accounts with support for previous connection methods. They now support only the EWC+ (Express Web Connect+) download method for all accounts which requires an active Quicken Classic Subscription.

    Or am I misunderstanding something?

BoA is not offering Quicken support at all for new accounts (it's not about old connection methods), they 'grandfathered support for Quicken in' on existing accounts (and changed the connection without telling customers. See the many posts about that.

I don't have any BoA accounts so I cannot speak from personal experience. But in my searches in this Community I am not seeing anything about BoA grandfathering in old accounts nor not supporting addition of new accounts. It would be helpful and appreciated it you would post one or more post thread links stating that.

What I do know is that BoA has been making changes (i.e., migrating) in how they support downloading into Quicken. This change was first announced in July 2025 (Upcoming: Bank of America/Merrill Lynch transition to new connection method) and it involves migrating from the Bank of America - All Other States financial institution (FI) and replacing it with the Bank of America - Quicken FI. (I'm also seeing another FI for BoA's credit card…Bank of America Credit Card…but I don't know how this factors into this transition.)

And since then there have been a lot of issues with this migration about which there have been several Alerts posted. Perhaps most notable is that the migration has been temporarily paused for existing accounts. That's not a true grandfathering because to be grandfathered generally implies a permanent hold on the migration for existing accounts. I think we can be very sure that once the issues with the new FI are resolved that all existing account connections will need to be migrated to the new one and the old FI will be retired. It's not so much a question of "if" but of "when" that will happen.

What I also know is that BoA's migration does not appear to include a new manual download connection option (at least not at this time).

FYI, I just went through a similar scenario with Fidelity that started at the end of July and existing account connections got a temporary pause in the migration for about 2 months because of all the issues with the new connection FI. During much of that pause period no new account connections could be established with Fidelity. When the pause ended ALL accounts were forced to use only the new FI. It was painful so if this is what you and other BoA account holders are going through then I certainly can empathize with you.

It is hidden in this very long post Sorry I have no time to search for other emails/posts. And again, it is not the change in connectivity type, it is the support for quicken in total. There were no alerts from BoA or Quicken that it would happen or happened. You encountered it because connectivity to 'BoA Other' didn't work anymore. I was also informed when I called BoA for help (they didn't want to put it on paper….)

Most of the big FIs are migrating to EWC+ because it is much less expensive for them than DC and it is much more secure for them than EWC and, in their perspective, DC.

Over the past several years, a consortium of major financial institutions in the USA and Canada have developed a new API standard. Their intent is stop every 3rd party aggregator from using their own APIs so that they (the FIs) have less that they need to manage when it comes to data transfer and security management. These participating FIs are now in the process of forcing the aggregators and 3rd party financial reporting/planning entities to comply with this new API.

EWC+ is Intuit's (the aggregator) and Quicken's response to that new API. It represents a very significant long-term investment in we users (their customers). If BoA or any of these other FIs that have already cut in EWC+ planned to drop support for Quicken I seriously doubt they would have spent so much money, time and resource commitments first to cut in EWC+. IMHO, EWC+ should be viewed as a long term recommitment to their customers. If they instead intended it to be a short-term thing I'm pretty sure they would have instead just hung on to DC and EWC for a while longer and the dropped support for Quicken like a hot potato.

Well, that's my perspective and 2 cents worth.

There certainly were "alerts" from Quicken Inc, not by email or in the program, but certainly on this forum.

And I believe even before this announcement there were others that said the change was coming.

As for "grandfathering in" I suspect that people were fooled by the fact that there was a long cutover period between when the fist made Express Web Connect + available and when they finally turned off the Direct Connect servers and told Intuit to change the FIDIR.TXT file to disable Direct Connect and Web Connect.

Again, this is not about protocol or connection changes that were done last year. This is about the Quicken support at all, only for existing accounts (initiated by the replacement of 'BoA other states' with 'BoA Quicken'

I don't follow, "BofA other states" is just the name put on an entry in the FIDIR.TXT file that Intuit maintains. And it makes changes to it when the financial institution tells them to.

Just as in the release notes you won't find an entry like "I changed line 5666 because it was adding the numbers wrong", you won't find announcements that "We no longer support "BofA other states". The announcements are BofA no longer supports Direct Connect or Web Connect.

Correct 'BoA other states' was a name for the connection to distinguish it from one or two other connections. What I mean to say is that the removal/change of that 'name' caused a lot of issues for people who had to reconnect (and reconnects didn't always work correctly so people (like me) had to do a few tricks to get it working again. Don't understand the 2nd paragraph, but I agree with the content. Here my main message is 'Nobody told 'BoA Other State' users upfront that this was going to happen. The downloads failed and due to the errors to reconnect correctly many people had errors and lost historical data. I think we have discussed the issue enough, and I don't want to spend more time on it.
