Investment Tracking - Combined Traditional and Roth 401(k)s

I am contributing to both a traditional and a Roth 401k through my employer so I am tracking as two separate deductions into two accounts. The company managing these accounts is pooling the money into one account so I can't figure out how to show my positions in the two accounts in my Quicken. Anyone run across this before?

Yes, many times. See this discussion for example

One option, if possible, is to choose different securities for the Traditional and Roth portions of the account.

Also when you start taking distributions, you can usually roll over the 401(k) into separate Traditional and Roth IRAs.

When you say "traditional", do you mean "traditional 401k)? If so, I don't believe that what the management company is doing is correct, or proper.

Those 2 account types have quite different tax handling. The traditional account contribution is made with pre-tax money, and is taxable upon withdrawal. While the Roth 401k is after-tax money and tax-free upon withdrawal.

I'd complain, LOUDLY, to my employer.

But, before I offer a suggestion, is download available from that/those accounts? The ability to download, or not, changes possible options.

Fidelity does a combined account with both traditional 401(k) and Roth 401(k) funds. You can see the separate contributions and their corresponding share counts and balances on the Net Benefits site.

It is quite common for plan administrators to combine traditional and Roth portions of a 401(k) into one account when downloading. T Rowe Price did that when I had a 401(k) that they managed.
