Desktop (Classic) Matrix & Lesson Learned on Downgrading to Starter

I recently downgraded to Classic Starter from Premier and lost all my investments (investment accounts only showed cash balances, and the 'Holdings' screen was missing all of the securities, but the transactions remained in the register). I promptly did a pro-rata upgrade to Deluxe, refreshed the license and everything came back.

This could have been avoided if the software matrix page https://www.quicken.com/products/pricing-comparison-classic/ included Starter on it.

I agree. It does say on the page for Quicken Starter in the FAQ section that you should "consider" at least Deluxe if you want to track investment accounts, but many people aren't going to see it there and "consider" isn't a very strong word for something that really isn't optional.

Starter subscriptions used to be listed alongside the others on the comparison page but were removed a few years ago.

@Quicken Laura - Thanks for passing this along in your organization.

The inclusion of Starter in the features matrix used to be standard. Not too long after Simplifi came out Starter was removed from that matrix and it became harder and harder to find anything about Starter in Quicken.com. I and other superusers have requested Starter to be added back to the matrix on multiple occasions and I know at least one Moderator said they would pass along the request to do so but nothing ever came of it.

This is not the first user to express frustration over this. It's almost like the Quicken Marketing team is trying to discourage customers from buying Starter subscription with the intent of some day discontinuing it. IMO it would be far better to make a clean cut one way or the other: Either continue to offer Starter and add it back into the Matrix or stop offering new Starter subscriptions (grandfather in existing Starter users so they can renew their subscriptions if desired) and then be done with it.

True, the next plug references the impermissible Loan and Investment accounts …which means the 2 contradict each other.

And, under the "See what else …" again "all your accounts" are referenced.

In this graphic, it might be unchecked … but what is investment info even depicted? TWICE?

The exclusion of Starter from a product matrix page is a black mark on Quicken. It causes users to guess instead of getting straightforward answers. It used to exist, but the folks in Quicken Marketing removed it — presumably because they want people to buy Deluxe or Premier rather than Starter. But so long as Starter is sold as an option, I think it should be clearly displayed so users can make informed buying decisions. The same goes for comparing Quicken Windows against Quicken Mac at each subscription level; it used to be easy, albeit not totally complete. Trying to do this currently on the Quicken website will likely drive people to use an AI chatbot — which may or may not get the nuances in differences between products correct.

Or they won't discover that Starter even exists as an option… which is perhaps Quicken's goal? Try going to Quicken.com an finding information on Starter. Even once you get past all the Quicken Simplifi marketing and find the link for Quicken Classic, the page is completely devoid of mentioning Starter:

The only place Starter is mentioned is if one scrolls all the way down to the page footer.

I hope Quicken Marketing can be convinced to fix this!

Even when they had the matrix in the past it has always been missing key information. And looking at the page @Quicken Laura gave I see they don't mention the lack of loan accounts for instance.
