Classic Version R68.28 for Windows killed Quicken!

I opened my Quicken program and was met with an automatic update before I could do anything. It took a longer time than usual, but it said it successfully installed. NOW IT WILL NOT OPEN. I launch the program, it asks for my file password, then nothing. I get a blank Quicken window with nothing and when I check my task manager is says "Not responding" and I have to force-quit.

I have tried rebooting my computer, I have tried a clean reinstall, but Version R68.28 will NOT WORK.

@jtomalley you can roll back to a prior patch version.

Download a prior patch and execute it to install it.

Works fine for me, and no difficulty with the install.

SO, before you do the rollback, suggested by @mshiggins, have you tried holding down CTRL and ALT while clicking on the Q Program (NOT data) icon to start?

That should cause the program to start without opening a data file … which would be the 1st step in determining if you have a program or a data issue.

If that works, you can click on the FILE menu to open your data file.

My system also DOES NOT UPDATE and Crashes or hangs. I've re-installed 3 times.

Running Windows 10 PRO 22H2

No ability to stop the update process.

PREVIOUSLY on updates: an MCI Windows file validation process would Hang and have to be manually stopped via Task Manager.

Today, several WEBVIEWER components are open in Task Manager, then disappear and the process hangs. The MCI process has disappeared.

Is this an issue with Windows 10 ONLY?

I'm on Windows 10 (older computer, cannot upgrade to Win 11)

If you're truly running QWin 2017, as your profile states, you shouldn't be able to download anything into Q, data or program updates. That product was sunsetted YEARS ago.

So, what Q product and what Version of that product are you running?

And, what "MCI Windows file validation process" are you referring to?

I'm also locked out of Quicken after the update R68.28. I'm using Win 10, latest updates. The rollback to a prior version on this page is wrong. I had to go back to R67.10 to get it running again. R68.25 and R68.28 both locked up my computer. FWIW: I DO have a tablet and laptop with WIN11, and they update fine. It's WIN 10.

This is a desktop machine with plenty of RAM and hefty enough processor, lots of storage and heavily used for other activities just not TPM compliant, so also not WIN 11 capable.

There is a QUICKEN ID validation process that seems new, and you HAVE to be connected to the internet for it after Installing Quickenand updating with the R67.10 patch as described above.

When you think it's done, (your file information appears and disappears a few times) there is a screen with "Please check internet connection and try again."

These processes seem new (I haven't seen them in Task Manager before) and are active as a part of the Quicken ID validation process.

There's some other processing that goes on with them in the background as you are getting the file to work (the 0% goes up and down).

I had to attempt to open the file more than once.

The data file IS in a OneDrive attached folder on MY MACHINE, which Quicken DOES NOT LIKE but eventually it came up. I DID have to close and restart Quicken a few times.

It's a pretty janky process, but so far so good.

Thanks again. I hope these additional details help anyone else with this problem.

NOTE: With Patch 68.28, you cannot browse, the machine locks up completely. Other applications work but Quicken refuses to operate.

Posted this back in 2023. Its been a part of EVERY upgrade until the last two/three months. R68.28 is the latest. Won't work on Win 10.
