Accepted Quicken update at product launch/Following update now Quicken start freezes during load

Product version 27.1.28.68 / Windows 10

I have removed and reinstalled / Executed from the QW.EXE file and always freezes at the

load of the screen. It gives me a white full screen with no detail and no error message. Firewall is not blocking program. Prior to reinstall It does appear to be attempting to create a "Quicken Data Synch_log.dat" and it does write to that file but then that appears to be the freeze point. After re-Install of program I do not see that file but the freeze occurs at the same point in program load. Any advice, Thanks In Advance

Are you sure about the version number. I have no record of 27.1.28.68 in my archive of Quicken releases. The highest in the 27.1.28.x was 27.1.28.28 and that was from September 2020.

If you show the properties of the QW.exe file, look on the Details tab for the version.

The latest release version available to users with an active subscription is R27.1.68.25.

And, if you can't open the program, how can you know the Version? It's usually found by doing HELP, About Quicken.

This is the info for file qw.exe that came from downloading the program today and installing new and getting the same issue. Hangs with full/blank screen initiation which is basically white with menu/help tab shown but not accessible.

@CLMarshall there has been a few reports of 68.28 causing a white screen. One method that has resolved the issue is to try rolling back to a prior patch version.

I have reinstalled and repatched to previos version and also ran with anti-virus shut off and get no change. I removed internet access during the reinstall and priot to patch got a screen asking for the location of the data file but then again program froze. I am currently back to where I was. A white screen frozen. At this point frustration level has reached 9.5-Could be end of life for me and using Quicken.

Uninstall from Windows>Settings>Apps>Installed Apps.
Manually delete the following hidden Folders-
1. C:\ProgramData\Quicken
2. C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\Quicken (you may not find it, it's a left over from earlier versions)
3. C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Roaming\Quicken
4. delete the file C:\Windows\Quicken.ini
Restart your PC
Reinstall by downloading the Quicken install from your account on the Quicken Support Site. Do Not use an old file you saved.
Do Not enable compatibility mode
On first open following install choose to start a new file
If that opens, try opening your problem file
1. If it does not open, it may have been corrupted so restore from your last working backup.

These steps remove left over files from old installations. Using the install from your Quicken account assures you get the latest version. Don't rely on the old one you may have.

I followed your suggestion, although it was off a bit to my configuration but generally I removed all folders and files including the .ini file which initially contained the paths to my data files. I rebooted and reinstalled from the download on the Quicked website and executed and the program stopped on the white screen just as it has sonce the most recent patch. The QW.exe file in the Windows 286 folder once again ahs the following version infoo:

I am confounded at this and although it may pertain to a situation on my PC, the fact I have not experienced an issue with Quicken until the last update I suspect they have sent me something that broke my install. I have tried loading a previous patch. Same result. Something updated is now clashing with my environment.

That is the version related to QW.EXE program in my APp folder, yes.

Just for grins, try setting Edge as your default browser to test if the page will load. It probably won't. Grasping at straws

Then double check Windows Control Panel, Internet Options, Advanced, Security as Q still uses some of the old IE pathways. TLS 1.3 being off would be my guess if this is the issue as it is more secure and not on by default in Win 10. Quicken update may force it being used?

Internet Options – Recommended Settings (Windows 10)

Enable DOM Storage = ON
TLS 1.2 = ON
TLS 1.3 = ON (if available)
Do not save encrypted pages to disk = OFF
Allow active content to run in files on my computer = ON
Check for publisher’s certificate revocation = ON

This is an issue where calling support might be beneficial.

Adding- Did you try repairing or reinstalling the Webview2 app? That was the second link in that thread I pointed to. Quicken uses that and it may have gotten corrupted during the update.

My Quicken has been working well since the restore of my backup. My question is can you launch MS Edge, search for a site, then browse it OK? I could not. That led me down the path of fixing MS Edge. My quickest path was to restore a recent backup. Truth be told, my most recent one did not work. I had to got back a couple to get one that worked. Fortunately, I back up my drive, at least once a week (mostly twice) so the working one was not that old. From that I can deduce that the .28 update did not cause the issue. Not sure why (or exactly when) my MS Edge puked but it's all good now.

My Edge Browser, which is not may default, is working fine and according to the Info is current.
Microsoft Edge is up to date.Version 150.0.4078.65 (Official build) (64-bit)

In one of my attempts to fix I did try to make it my default browser but that also did not resolve the issue.

The edge browser opens dozens of sub tasks which it fails to close when browser is closed.

It's a dirty software. So I prefer a different one.

I do not have a system backup I would want to go back too. Intuit has delivered a version to my PC that broke the software.

I have tried dozens of things to repair what was broke or at least isolate it. All attempts have failed even when other users say

their solutions fixed this issue. I will be contacting Intuit. Thanks for responding…

@CLMarshall , I would like to repeat and rephrase what @mshiggins suggested earlier. You are on Windows 10. A few users have reported issues with R68.xx on Win10 in the past few days. In fact when they reverted back to R67.10 things were resolved for them. So did you try reverting specifically to R67.10?

If not, please download and install R67.10 (dated 5/18/2026) using the link that was provided earlier and I will repeat:

And do not update to any newer release for the time being. Let us know of the outcome please.

I did as you said and it appears I am now able to use the product again. It was a bit clunky getting thru the process, being I am no as tech savvy as I should be, but all worked. I also discovered there is no actual way to stop auto update process so I was pointed to created a rule in Windows firewall to block the QW update executable from accessing the Internet. I hope that keeps the program from updating on it's own. In any case, I seriously thank you for the assist. I was pulling hair out removing/adding/removing lalala.

It is unfortunate that you and many other users had to go thru this experience. I hope Quicken takes an action!

NOTE: There is absolutely a way for you to stop the Quicken auto update - via Windows UAC. Since you 'think' you are not techie (I think you are btw), here are the steps to accomplish it:

1- Use the keyboard and press the four square Windows key (third lower key from the left) + the R key simultaneously. Known as "Win + R" (use the lower-case r by the way, I know!)

2- Type UserAccountControlSettings all one word no spaces > OK.

3- It will bring up the following popup window, known as UAC (User Account Control).

4- Move the slider any of the top two options > OK

Next time Quicken wants to give you an update, Windows will give you a Yes/No pop up notification to allow it or not. You are in control. Say No if you don't want an update. I hope this helps.
