Are You an “Out and About” Person or a “Home Sweet Home” Person?

Some people love getting out of the house, exploring, socializing, trying new places, and staying busy. Others are happiest right where they are.

I’ll admit it: I’m definitely a homebody! 🏡 Home is my safe place, and there’s just something comforting about being at home. Going out can be fun, and I enjoy it sometimes, but I also get tired when I’m out and about. Given the choice, I’d usually rather be relaxing at home.

What about you? Are you a homebody, always ready for an adventure, or somewhere in between?

I’m definitely always ready for an adventure! 😄 I love hiking volcanoes, rappelling, and trying different extreme sports. I enjoy being outdoors and experiencing new things, so staying home all the time would definitely be hard for me! 🏔️🧗‍♂️

I guess I’m the opposite of a homebody! 😂

I don't like to travel but I do like some exploring around the area I live in (about a maximum of 10 miles).

But I do prefer staying home. I am more comfortable in my own home and yard.

I'm very much a homebody. There is a nice walking/biking trail near where I live that I enjoy using, and I do some yard work and gardening, but most of my hobbies are indoor hobbies, like reading and video games.

I’d say I’m somewhere in between. I absolutely love traveling and hope to do a lot more of it in the future. I also love being outdoors—camping, exploring, and finding somewhere with water to swim or paddleboard are some of my favorite adventures.

At the same time, there’s a lot of comfort in being home. If I know people are heading out to an event with a huge crowd, I’m usually pretty happy to stay home instead. 😂 I enjoy adventure, but large crowds aren’t really my thing.

I think I’ve come to really value peace and quiet, especially with how busy my day-to-day life can be. Give me good food, good people, the occasional adventure, and plenty of peaceful evenings at home, and I’m happy.

Ditto as @Quicken Alyssa. I am somewhere in between. I am now done with the large events and large crowds but I still love to get out, be active and travel (off tourist season if there is such a thing). As for dining, I now prefer to eat at home every opportunity and have people over because then we get to spend more time with each others.

My wife & I have had medical issues over the past 3 years, that have kept us from traveling as much as we'd like … but I've been to every continent except Antarctica. And I used to live in Italy.

We expect to be able to start traveling again in 2027.

SO, I guess we're "Out & About".

Some cold facts: Minus 128.6 F temp, recorded in 1983 in Antarctica. And a few weeks ago -119.4.

I know someone who works at a science base in Antarctica … but they're only there for the "summer" months.

100% Homebody who loves his alone time. After both living with people and living alone, alone is the way to go as I don't like people messing with my nest.

That's not to say I am anti-social or don't like being around people. I am fine with that (work usually sufficient). But, I can skip big cities and congested areas. I prefer to stay local.

@BK Except for the small number of researchers who spend the winter months in Antarctica, the other 99% of people who visit the continent do it in the summer (our winter here in the northern hemisphere), when temperatures can range from the low 20s (F) to the mid 40s. Most tourists visit only a small tip of the Antarctic Peninsula, which is closest to South America, warmer, and has numerous accessible places for cruise ships to visit (and one place for planes to land). We went a few years ago; the temperatures and weather overall were not harsh.

My parents loved to travel, so my posterior was usually in a car or plane visiting far off places. It was fine then, and I appreciate/understand how lucky I was.

But now, if I never left my county-I would be happy as a clam. Traveling has become such a hassle. Heck, just regular interstates are constantly packed with crazed drivers. My buddy drove a big truck for 46 years, and he retired mainly because it was becoming literally too scary to be on the road. Sliding down a mountain was one thing, dealing with reckless drivers is another.

And flying is even worse-pack me in a box and ship me FedEx and I would likely have a better experience. :-)

Traveled for work a lot and lived in Hong Kong for work also.

None of the business travel perks I earned can match the smell of fresh perked coffee at home. Retired now and very much enjoying being planted at home in the USA!

Guess now more of a 'Home Sweet Home' now, though still get 'Out & About' a tiny bit now. Usually though, not that far from Home Base.

Now, back in my young days, more of an 'Out and About' you'd say. One short example. During 4 year 'Sailor Boy' hitch, ship tied up in Rota, Spain. Me and couple guy's caught the bus to tip of Spain, rode ferry over Strait of Gibraltar to Ceuta, Spain. Yep, that one, recently in news after invasion of Morocco's. Well, we 3 amigo's found a seaside bar & restaurant later that evening with tables (& some ladies 😉) on the beach. Before the main course arrived, waiter would bring a tiny platter with finger food (as we called it) with a small shot glass filled with hard liquor. It was really good, whatever it was, and we keep on ordering the small platter, along with the shot glass liquor, of course. Can't say how many, but a lot, cause none of us could ever recall what the main course was 🤔🙃 Anyway, made our way back to ferry about 1:30 AM, back across the Strait, catching the bus back to ship; arriving about 5:00 AM. Reveille at 6:00 AM. 7:45 AM, it was 'Turn to, Continue Ship's Work'. Not much work done by us 3 amigo's that day 😏

I’m definitely a Home Sweet Home person above all else. I love being home, and if it were entirely up to me, I’d probably be perfectly content staying in most of the time. That said, I do get out and about with my family—mostly for the kids. Because let me tell you, having three boys—twin teenagers AND a toddler—cooped up in the house for too long will turn anyone into the Mad Hatter. 😂
