A personal note to share…

Today marks my 30th anniversary of using Quicken. I installed the app from a CD back on September 23, 1996. I know the exact date because I still use the same checking account in which I made that very first Quicken entry. Oddly, I didn’t buy that first copy of Quicken. It was given to me by an Intuit representative while I was attending an annual banking industry trade show. Intuit had a booth at the show where they were pitching to us IT/Bankers to entice us into putting links between our bank systems and Intuit’s systems, thus allowing Quicken customers to see bank provided account information right inside their Quicken app. In hindsight, little did I know just how cool that feature would turn out to be.

Of course I’ve used (and paid for) Quicken ever since.

Wow, Congrats to all you 'Ole Timers' 🎈 of Quicken World! Well, I really can't remember the very 1st day of my journey with Quicken; course I'm getting to the age where (sometimes), it's difficult to remember the 1st day I started anything 🤣 Got'a go back, say, at least 30 years or so when I began a small (nay, shall I say tiny) business. Thought along these lines before deciding to jump in and give Quicken a shot. Gee, 'maybe' it'd be neat combining my personal and business dealings all in one software program (Quicken H&B); as long as I keep my business on the small side, which I did. Plus, I could prepare and send business dealings (such as updates, final bill, etc.) in emails to my customers. Only thing was, in those days, most of my customers wanted bill on paper, so they could touch and take a good gander at it. As in "Listen here now, don't you send me no blasted email updates or bills; besides, ain't got no damn computer, AND, no intentions buying one!" Now those were the Good Ole Days! 😉

When I go to generate a transaction report and select "include all dates" the start date is 5/5/92. That sounds about right. I didn't use it for much then besides keeping a checkbook and printing checks (so foolish now).

I have two dates 1/1/1992 and 5/10/1996. I started using Quicken in 92 but at that time it wasn't possible to download so I was manually updating for a couple of years and got tired of it, so I stopped using it. And I started using it again when I found out I could download transactions.

It looks like I bought my first Quicken in mid-December 1990; my oldest data file starts 12/1/90. Weird to think that was more than half my life ago.

Gee, this is a neat topic. Anyway, just did online search and learned Quicken launched Quicken H&B in 1997. So using that as timeline, calculate I began to use Quicken at least by that date. Best I remember (getting old sucks, don't it) was using Quicken for WIndows (launched in 1991) for a few years before 1997. I even purchased some of those Quicken for Dummies books, (anyone remember those) 🤔 Still have a Quicken 2003 for Dummies book I use sometimes for research, though admit it's a bit outdated 😂

I bought Quicken (version 2 for DOS) along with our first computer, an IBM Model 30 286 running IBM DOS version 4.0, in mid-December 1988. Started inputting 1989 data starting on January 1, 1989. It's definitely the oldest program we've ever owned and still use to this day.

Since 1985 here……. Quicken first released in 1984.

I started with Managing Your Money back in 1989, entering transactions manually until I converted to Quicken in November of 1999.

I guess that makes me a relative newcomer here.
