Recombining Quicken 2007 Files?

Like many long-time Quicken 2007 Mac users, I have had to split my database into two because of data limitations inherent in the old Q2007 software.  Now that newer versions of Quicken are available (i.e. 2017) that can import Quicken 2007 data, is there a way to recombine two Q2007 datafile so as to have one complete file in 2017?  If this can be done, I might just finally consider switching to the newer software, although I still don't think it's as good as the original 2007 version.

Yes, you can. QM2017 allows the ability to import more than one Qm2007 data file into a single file. Not sure of the data clean-up that would ensue.

That said, I suggest that you make sure that Quicken 2017 for Mac will meet your needs, since it is not an upgrade from QM2007 but rather from Quicken Essentials (which was re-written from the ground up, starting in 2010), so there are some features that are still not there e.g. full loan amortization*, 2-line display, QuickMath, or are not as fully developed yet, e.g. Customized Reports, investment lot management, performance reports and stats (therefore some data may not carry over). You can start here:
    http://www.quicken.com/mac/compare

*NOTE: Support for fixed rate loans has been released in v4.5.x but there is no announced timing for support for variable rate or simple daily interest loans.

Currently, the main advantages of QM2017 over QM2007 include the ability to sync cash, bank, and credit card accounts using Quicken Mobile for mobile devices (iOS and Android) and the ability to save receipts with transactions via computer or mobile device. There are a few other minor features that QM2007 does not have. Note that QM2017 is being supported until April 30, 2020 whereas it has been announced that security fixes have ceased for QM2007 since QM2017 is released...see http://www.quicken.com/support/update-quicken-mac-2007-support-policies-may-2016 yet online access will continue as long as the FI/Bank supports it and their security updates don't prevent it.

If you find that QM2017 does not meet your needs, the alternative is to continue to run QM2007 Lion Compatible (LC), which will run on Mac OS X 10.6.8 to 10.12 Sierra (so far).

Thanks.  I tried long ago to recombine my two files in QM2015, but many of the accounts were duplicated, sadly.  I may try again in QM2017.  I currently run QM2007 on Sierra, but have read that the forthcoming High Sierra will only run 64-bit apps, thereby putting QM2007 out of service.  I hope not, but it may finally be the end of the road for QM2007 if you want to run it on the most current MacOS.  Hoping this isn't true...

I am running Mac Sierra, 10.12.5 and am running Quicken 2007.  Will my software continue to run after the critical update in September?  I want to continue to download transactions from credit card accounts.  Thank you for your assistance.

First, combining data files will copy the files as is, so if both files have the same accounts, you will end up with duplicates. The process does not automatically combine accounts. That said, QM2017 allows moving transactions from one register to another via drag and drop one or multiple transactions at a time and the ability to delete one or multiple at a time.

As for QM2007 and High Sierra, Apple has only stated that 32-bit apps will not be accepted and sold via the Mac Apple Store as of Jan 2018 and will not accept updates to 32-bit apps after Jun 2018. This is the first step in phasing out 32-bit apps but does not mean 32-bit apps will stop working. That said, it still remains to be seen if QM2007 will have trouble with High Sierra for other reasons.

Very useful information smayer97.  Thank you for the help.  Fingers crossed for High Sierra, and I may give it a test-drive with the public High Sierra beta.

Scott, that's incorrect about High Sierra. All apps on the App Store will need to be 64-bit, but older 32-bit apps won't die. (Yet.) Apple has said High Sierra will be the last macOS to support 32-bit apps "without compromise" -- without defining what that means exactly. So the odds are that Quicken 2007 may continue to run on High Sierra, but *next* year's OS upgrade is much iffier. (And, of course, you don't need to upgrade to the latest OS.)

Back to combining files, I just wanted to add one point. If you import both files and end up with some duplicate accounts, it may be very easy to combine them. In Quicken for Mac, you can open an account, select all the transactions, and drag them to another account – and your accounts are combined in one step. (But this does not work for investment accounts; only cash, banking, credit card, etc. accounts.)

Thank you for the excellent reply.   Good news about HS. I will also try recombining as you suggest.  I'd like to eventually get off of QM2007, but so far the newer products just don't seem as thorough, although they are getting better.   But I know that I'm living on borrowed time and will eventually need to convert.

Also note that in a worst case scenario, you can always fall back onto running QM2007 in a VM (Virtual machine like Parallels or Fusion) to get you even more borrowed time.

Just discovered that the link above to the "List of Obstacles and Hindrances for Migrating from QM2007 or QWin..." was broken. It is now fixed.
