Size or Capacity Limitations of a Quicken Data File

There isn't really a file size limit.

The size of the file really isn't the important part, it is the number of transactions and other stuff.  You could be a user that stores attachments with your transactions and the overall size of the file would get HUGE but not have anywhere near the limitations cited in the article referenced by @Greg_the_Geek

-splasher using Q continuously since 1996
    - Subscription Quicken - Win11 and QW2013 - Win11

  • Do you know what the maximum number of transactions would be and how to check that?

My file size is almost 1GB with 8 years worth of data.

There is no maximum number of transactions.  From within Quicken, press Ctrl  and select Help > About Quicken

Have you been saving attachments in the data file?

You may be a little high on the number of categories, but if you really need that many, go right ahead. That should not be a problem.
You did not answer the question about "do you attach scanned document images to your transactions or accounts?" Your QDF is only about 90 MB, much less of your quoted 1 GB total file size. So, is the difference between 90 MB and 1 GB made up of attachments?
    Bottom line, IMHO:
You're nowhere near any file size limitations.
To be on the safe side, I recommend running the file validation procedure outlined in Step (2) of Troubleshooting 101 - Fixing Software Installation and Data File Problems to see if that results in a significant reduction in file size.

  • Thanks for your quick replies. There are no attachments in my file.
