Thanks Dan, I will try this but do I need to uninstall the Quicken 2013 that I have downloaded before downloading the US version of Quicken 2004 as you suggest?
Thanks. I'm very grateful for your advice.

Yes, I think you'll need to remove Q2013 to be able to install Q2004.

Follow the QCleanUI instructions for Q2017 on this support page to remove Q2013 and make sure there are no residual registry entries that stop Q2004 installing.

Hi Dan. I’ve tried all of your suggestions and unfortunately none of them will convert my 2004 UK data backup. I really don’t want to create a new quicken file and lose decades of data. Do you have any other suggestions please.
    Thank you.

Did that include using MS Money as an intermediary version?

As asked above, did you try the MS Money route?

If you did and nothing worked the picture doesn't look good I'm afraid.  First of all I'd advise starting a new Quicken file with a more recent version of Quicken so that you have a working file that you can use into the future.  As for accessing your old data there are some possibilities, it depends if you still have access to a working copy of Q2004UK.

Can you run a virtual machine with an old version of windows that will allow you to run Q2004UK?  If so, you could start that up just for the purpose of accessing old data, the need for which would diminish as you build up new data in the future.

If you're feeling masochistic (and are able to run Q2004UK on your old machine or a virtual machine), you could attempt to export your old data as QIF files and then import them into your new file.  It's not straightforward, you'll need to have the new file prepared with identical category lists and some other things, and the import is likely to leave a lot of cleaning up to do, but if you're patient and determined it could be done.  A former SuperUser on the forum posted an article on how he rebuilt a Quicken file from QIF files, take a look at it and see if it's a process you'd be comfortable with and think worthwhile.
