Reconciling problem

After a Quicken update, Quicken did not find my data file. I had to find it, and apparently picked the wrong one. At one point, when reconciling, the beginning amount did not match, so Quicken did an adjustment. the ending balance did not match, so Quicken did another adjustment. Can I back track through my statements, un reconciling each item, until I get way back, then use my statements to re-reconcile everything?

    To mark transactions as unreconciled you will mass highlight the transactions in question and set them to "Uncleared."
    1. Select the first transaction to be unreconciled.
    2. Scroll to the last transaction.
    3. Now hold Shift while left-clicking the last transaction. All from first to last should now be selected.
    4. Select the "R" in the Clr column to set to uncleared

    One thing to note about Quicken's reconcile.  Because Quicken will include all reconciled transactions in the register even if they are past the statement end date you put in, you can only reconcile "forward". 

    As in if you have reconciled from 1/1/2021 to today, you can't go back to say 1/1/2020 through 12/31/2020 and mark those unreconciled and then reconcile them again.  You would have to unreconcile from 1/1/2020 onward before starting the reconcile.

    Depending on how much time you need to reconcile (as in if it is years), then you might want to take the approach of splitting the problem in half and then in half again until you are finished.

    In other words you start by unreconciling all the transactions.  Then you pick a point about 1/2 through your transactions and try to reconcile to that point.  If you can reconcile you know that there aren't any problems in the first half and you can go to splitting the remaining transactions in half and repeating.

    If the reconcile fails you unreconcile those transactions and split those in half and repeat the process until you are down to a manageable amount of transactions to inspect individually.
