How can I delete old and unused catagories from the category list?

ok How can i delete some old and unused categories from the category list

    In the Category List, right click on the category name and select DELETE from the pop-up box that appears.
    If the Category is truly unused, it will tell you and allow you to continue with deleting it.
    If not, you'll be told that also.
    BTW, you can't delete any of Q's internally used categories, that begin with an underscore.

    Also, if you delete a built-in Category, Quicken's automatic categorization will no longer work for that Category. If you want to use automatic categorization, it is better to rename categories to your preferred name for the same type of income or expense and/or reorganize the Categories to eliminate some of Quicken's default main Categories.

    If there are built-in Categories that you do not use, you may want to hide rather than delete them.

    Note that you can neither delete nor hide transfers.  They aren't "proper categories" even though they appear on the category list.  To delete a transfer in the category list, you would need to delete the account.
