Using Quicken without linking accounts
I’m working with an elderly woman who was using a very old version of Quicken until her computer crashed and she was forced to upgrade. Obviously, she was using it without linking to her checking accounts.
Now she is subscribed to Quicken Classic for Windows, and she doesn’t want to link her accounts.
Is there anyone else out there using Quicken (online version) that doesn’t link their checking accounts? I have questions:
- How do you reconcile the accounts? Is there a manual way to tell Quicken that a check has cleared?
- The fact that some important columns don’t show up in the register is a real hassle. I figured out how to add “Deposits”. Can I also add “Check Number” and “Check cleared” for manual entry?

Yes, simply put a "c" in the Clr column for that check.

Something's wrong here. Right out of the box Quicken presents all the columns you'd normally need for most any type of Account, particularly bank Accounts and credit card Accounts. So a new checking Account looks like this:
Someone has been playing around either with "preferences" (Edit > Preferences…) or the Action icon (gearwheel in upper right hand corner) and changing things.
While you do need an internet connection to really use Quicken you certainly can run it entirely manually.

If this just happened and the old data file is from a version from Quicken 2013 or older, my suggestion would be to get the free version that Quicken Inc makes available that is the last truly offline version. It should be the closest to what she was using:
https://assistant.quicken.com/patch/ASDES5672FR13/Old_Products/QWIN/QW2013DLX.exe
What's more for the manual entry/clear it is easier. Back then you just had to click on the Clr field and it would toggle the it to c for cleared, now you have click and then select from the three choices. Also, back then there wasn't as much flexibility of changing what columns would be shown, which has it pluses and minuses (minuses in this case).
Note that you will have to open the data file from the older version of Quicken, not the one that Quicken Subscription created. Quicken Subscription should have made a backup of that file when it converted it. It would be in a BACKUP folder where the Quicken data file is.
EDIT: Note if this is done, any transactions entered after switching to Quicken Subscription will have to be reentered.

I link my main checking account- but have several other accounts that I manage manually

Then my suggestion doesn't apply to you.
I'm not sure why you are posting on this thread. Can you clarify?

My comment was directed at the OP.
By the way, your response to me is very rude.

I'm sorry if that came off as a rude statement. I misunderstood your post and thought you were asking about some problem that wasn't being discussed on this thread.
