Updated Quicken to R56.9 - then it would not open... (edit)
Using quicken classic deluxe on Windows 10. Last used 48-72 hours ago. Open program, put in password, and little blue circle spins… and spins… and spins. I installed the patch & it still isn't working.

Hello @pbkac,
Have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling Quicken? Please refer to the following support articles for instructions on uninstalling here and reinstalling here.
However, after you have uninstalled and before you proceed with reinstalling, please open your Windows File Explorer and navigate to This PC > C: Drive > Program Files (x86) and delete the folder titled "Quicken" (doing so does not affect your data files). After you have deleted this folder, go ahead and try reinstalling.
Let us know how it goes!

Thank you. Before I do so, one more question. My husband is the one that uses Quicken, I get stuck doing troubleshooting when needed. He doesn't know when he last saved our data. It could be months. Heck, a year. When I installed the update, I got a message, "Update successful! Quicken has been successfully updated to version R56.9… your data file was automatically backed up."
So I should be safe uninsalling & reinstalling, or am I going to be starting COMPLETELY over?
Thanks again

You (your husband's) Q data is stored in files that end with .QDF … NOT in the program. Just like word processing or spreadsheets aren't stored in the program.
Un/Re installing Q won't touch your data … but if you want you could always do a Windows copy of the QDF file to a USB drive or such.

your data file was automatically backed up."So - was Quicken spinning AFTER this installation - or was this the re-install, and everything is now ok ?
You should check the doc folder /Quicken/Backup and see if any auto backups are being created in that folder ?
There is a setting …. Preferences —> Backups —>
AND - you should also be taking some manual backups to an external flash drive - or just copy the /Backup/ folder to a flash drive -
OR - setup the Quicken Backup Preference reminder for Manual Backups to an external flash drive, etc -1 -
Quicken was spinning before and after the installation of the patch. I have not uninstalled & reinstalled for fear of losing data. (I am not at all tech-savvy.)
Thank you NotACPA and PS56k2 for your responses. I was able to find the backup and will uninstall & reinstall. Hopefully this is the last you'll hear from me. :)

It worked for five days and started doing the spinning thing again. I repeated what I'd done the last time and it did not help. Still spinning. Please advise.
